What causes this??

Does anyone have any idea what causes this and what I can do to help it

Assuming you have a rooster, that looks to me like a case of the rooster being rough on your hen. This thread may be helpful: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/316560/rooster-over-mating-hens.

+1. How old is your rooster (assuming you have one)? Young Roos can be very enthusiastic about their new hormonal changes, and clumsy until the have had some practice. Also how many hens do you have per rooster? The more the better as each hen won't get as much attention.

I actually don't have a rooster and all of my hens are like this not quite this bad but all of them kind of have it

Could you take a pic of them.When a rooster mates he puts his feet on the bare spot you showed and will grab onto there head feathers which were gone in your photo.
