Hello! I will be getting chicks soon and was wondering what breeds best get along with Brahmas and Orpingtons. I was considering New Hampshire hens, but it said that they can sometimes be aggressive with the more docile breeds and have parasite problems. So was wondering if you all would still recommend them or not. Otherwise, was looking at Delaware or I have heard that Speckled Sussex was supposed to be good. One of my first options was Wyandotte's but didn't know if they would be too aggressive with the others. Are there any other breeds that you recommend? All my chicks will be hens that will be used for eggs. Thank you!!

I agree, each bird has its own personality, so nothing is set in stone. I have a brahma, she's almost 5yrs old. She is head hen and an absolute brute when it comes to making the others mind her, lol. I have Orpingtons, Marans, OE's, and Ameraucanas, they all get along for the most part and everyone has their place.

Each Bird has its own personality, so. You won't know Exactly, but. If you wanted to know, I have Blue Andalusians, Prarie Bluebell Eggers and Brahma Plymouth Crosses with my Brahmas. I don't have Orpingtons, But they get along well with my Brahmas. Again, just saying this. Because I have Brahmas, But. Its really up to the Temperment and Personality of the bird

Do you have any problems with the Americanas since they are Hybrid chickens? Also do you know much about Production Reds hens? Thank you!

Always check the spelling when purchasing "Americanas" (EE's) will be fairly cheap and come in an array of mixed colors, with the key words blue, green, or possibly brown eggs, "Ameraucanas" will be pricey, are set colors, and only lay blue eggs. My Ameraucanas are true, not EE's, and are quite chatty and friendly. I don't know anything but what I've read about production reds, I've never had one. You're welcome!

Okay, that is very helpful information! Also do you know anything about the Delaware Hens? Thank you!

You can't go wrong with easter eggers IMO. Yes, each bird is an individual but in general most easter eggers tend to be pretty docile
I'll second this. I think EE's are the best all-around chickens. Having said thst, though, I just don't know of any breeds thst DON'T get along well together. In their world (IME), "chickens is chickens." The only problems come when introducing NEW chickens, of any kind or color, into an existing flock. And when done properly, it can be done fairly easily and seamlessly with a minimum of fuss. Chickens don't know what they look like, they don't have mirrors. So when a chicken of a different color comes in, they don't freak out over that. "EEEEK, your feathers are a different color/ texture/ length than mine, you are alien, you are the enemy!" No. They just think, Where are you going to fit on the social ladder, the pecking order? So there may be scuffles over that. So get whatever chickens you want in your flock. And read these articles.
