i am getting chickens what are kid friendly

Fried chicken was always my favorite. If you want eggs and a friendly chicken I would get Red Stars (Red Sex Link). I don't have any but I do know people who do and they are very social. Honestly, I have many breeds of chickens and they are all friendly........except one. Lucy, the RIR. She will peck the ticks off a mean coon dog.

my EE and Red Star hens are Fantastic with my young grandchildren....they also lay me an egg each 6 out of 7 days...stay away from roo's to be safe with any breed

Can't speak from experience but my supplier where I got my chicks had some buff Orpington's set aside for 4H kids. I did get a couple and them seem to be very friend but are only 6 wks old. They don't mind bening handled.

I, too, have grandkids who love my Easter Eggers and Red Sex Links. That's critical because Katie (just turned 9) and Evan (just turned 10) are my chicken sitters during our many trips out of town. If they were afraid of the chickens, there's simply no way they'd be willing to go out and clean the poop deck, gather the eggs, and do the feeding and watering, and I would never ask them to do those things. Also my littlest granddaughter, Kendra who is 3, is in a wheelchair. No way on earth I'd expose her to chickens I couldn't trust.

All that said, remember that chickens are like people in that they all have different personalities, likes and dislikes. So what works well for me might not be the ideal choice for you. I have, however, added more Easter Eggers and Red Sex Link chicks to the flock this year. The kids also love the colored eggs!
