What chickens can eat

I have some outdated tricolored coleslaw mix in a bag, is it safe to give to 8 week chickens

Or at what age is it safe to start giving them other food besides chicken pellets? Any info would be great!

I start giving them a few kitchen scraps after about a month old. So far I haven't had any problems and they love it.

Make sure they have access to some sort of grit.

What about old fashioned Quaker oats??? Not the quick oats...are they safe and how much can be given for 11 chickens?

I gave mine oats as a treat out of my hand when they were small as a treat. Works as a bribe to get them back in the run too. I would say not more than a handful or two for that many. I was afraid of them swelling up after they ate them. They also love them cooked in the winter. A few raisins will start a war. Wouldn't recomend hand feeding them, might draw back a nub.
