What?! Chores and child labor?

I was never expected to do any chores when I was younger, and up until I was about 12 I was only expected to do dishes and clean my room HOWEVER from about the age of 7 onwards I volunteered EXTRATIME at the private barn I took lessons at cleaning stalls, doing barn chores, feeding horses, turnout out horses, lunging horses, helping with lessons, and helping the feedstore guy unload and put away bags of grain and hay bales once a week.

You're such a meanie!! lol

I agree with you a hundred percent and I don't even have kids yet! My sister is like yours..they pick up their toys and that's about it. Uh hello...do you remember what it was like when we were growing up?!! We had our chores and we had to do them or Daddy got the belt out! JK, but still we had to earn our keep and obviously she didn't like that, so hers are doing next to nothing. I feel that doing chores teaches responsibility and gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment, esp when told they've done something well. I can't wait to have my own kids so I can get accused of child labor too!!

Kids need structure! And the chores you list sound age-appropriate and have support/supervision when needed.

It gives me hope for the next generation that there are people like you raising children.
