The kind in the US. I'm getting a pair this weekend, wonder what I'd get if I hatch some chicks with a black mottled cochin. Probably be crazy looking little things!

Also- is their comb type dominant?

HappyMtn,
Try the american buttercup club.
Here is a article on judgeing the Buttercup.

The cup comb as on the Buttercup's are caused by the "Duplex comb gene". (Duplex with single for cup combs)
The Pattern gene on the Buttercup is e^bc.

Chris

That will depend on whether the cochin is extended black (E) or brown (e^b) based. If E, then yes, the offspring will be black. However if e^b, you should get incomplete spangled offspring. You would have to breed offspring together or back to the mottled parent to get mottling, as it is recessive.

I hate that about mottling! It would be so neat to get a combination of the mottling and spangling.

Ha ha ha- Buttercochins!
