What color are these crazy silkies??? Pic intensive.

I had a variety of colors, and didn't want really ugly showgirls (calicos and such), so I just keep the blues. They are dark, almost black, and looking really good... if a showgirl can look good.

Ugh I hear you. I've banned partridge from the grounds (I don't mind the ones with white in the background, but hate the ones on blue). I was just going to have white and try to breed to buff, but this b/b/b chick hatched and now DD is attached. So I'll have it too I guess. I am hoping it's a pullet, that would make things easier.

Yes, the partridge were the first to go. They were HIDEOUS!

Oh and I wanted to say that I'm trying to breed up. And by that I mean I want to improve the stock I have. I'm not interested in just breeding willy nilly, I want to get somewhere with it.

He is my roo I decided to keep. He has a very good topknot for a showgirl in my opinion. He's not homozygous, but he was the best out of the bunch for sure.

Oh yeah, really nice topknot on him!!

Meringue will never have a great topknot, but is so quirky looking. Has a deeper voice than the others. Funny how they differ so.

I think Celia will have a nice topknot either way and is obviously a more refined cross.

So, that first one is going to be blue??? WOW.. I would have thought a splash.

cute chickies tho...

The jury is still out if I like these showgirls or not.... If I had any, I'd have to make neck scarves for them, it gets cold here.

LOL. I know you mean for breeding, as the color is so hard to breed. But as pets they are just fine....... RIGHT????

Man... I have a dark blue splash silkie pullet that has almost a hattrick style topknot, good toes, could use more feathering up the middle toe. She has blue lobes, good comb... and I want showgirl babies from HER!!! She is just starting to think about squatting, so I'm thinking another month or so before eggs.

It the buff coming through on Meringue's breast, too or only on the back & wings?

Yes, I believe it would have to be dominant white for that much colour to show through. Chances are, though that he actually also carries a copy of recessive white, so I wouldn't breed to white if you are wanting to work on red/buff pyle.

I believe red pyle is BBR plus one copy of dominant white. Unfortunately, BBR is not normally found in silkies. I am not coming up with a good variety to breed to (or at least one common in silkies) to propigate the colour.
