What color are week-old white silkies?

Quote:
I only have 2 color hatch from my whites, yellow and grayish(carring silver), but all mine turn white, I have never had an adult to keep greyish feathers though...hmmm Interesting. I believe I have had some grayish colored chicks to be pullets also, but not positive. I will keep a eye out when I start hatching some whites.

ETA- also my grayish chicks seem to resist the yellowing of the hackle & saddle feather due to sun exposure, they are bright white.

Out of mine one is like the chick on the left (except lighter), one is like the one on the right, and one is in between.

white is a masking gene, it can have alot of different colors under it hidden, so this maybe why your whites don't have "white" chicks.

When I used to raise silkies, my whites always hatched out with white down. I never saw the differences that are posted here. I have seen this in other breeds, just not in my silkies.

I didn’t hatch a white on white silkie, mine was a partridge on white. I do have one that’s the Greyish/silver color and one with the yellowish/buff color, but they both have dark markings.
