What color eggs does your chicken lay?

I thought it might be fun and helpful to some (like me) if we post what our chickens egg color looks like, with more than just the basic description of "brown" or "white", when applicable. Here are mine:

  • Black Austrolorp: Brown - Usually a "traditional" shade of brown. Similar in color to a grocery store brown egg. Some days though it has a touch of pink to it.
  • Gold-Laced Cochin - "traditional" shade of brown with beautiful little light purple speckles.
  • Ameracauna - Blue Green. More green than blue.
  • Blue Andalusian - White. And the small end is sort of flattish.
  • Welsumer - Dark brown, almost with a terracotta orange to it. Sometimes with dark speckles.
  • Silver Laced Wyandotte - Very light brown. Almost a cream color.
  • Salmon Faverolle - Very light brown. Almost a cream color.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else's eggs look like!

my eggs are from barred rocks, and they are a cream Brown to a speckled brown. Great information!

Jersey Giant, And cream legbar. (My other CL lays a slightly more blue egg strangely)
Jersey Giant only started laying yesterday, so it couldn’t change maybe?

This post gives me a chance to show off my very first oliver egger egg I got this afternoon. It came from some OEs I "made myself" this spring from a FBCM roo over black Ameraucanas or EEs. I kept 4 of the OEs so I am not sure which laid the first olive egg. My son remarked "That's big for a beginner!" The blues on either side are from lavender Ameraucanas and the greenish blue in the 3rd row are from Whiting true blues. The light browns in the back row are from naked necks and NHR hens, the 2 darker browns with white speckles are from black stars. My marans are on strike at the moment! The large white egg is from a duck. My 2 duck hens just keep cranking them out, short days or no!!

I just got 2 whiting true blues in late July and they started laying 2 weeks ago. One is an OK bird, neither friendly nor flighty, the other is flighty and really really dumb. But the eggs are pretty. More green to me than blue; I might try the Whiting's true greens this spring. But to be honest, I've been really happy with my EEs. They are always last to stop laying in the winter and first to start up again...and I'm pretty sure that olive egg came from an EExFBCM cross; I saw one of them in the nest box this morning and she left another lovely (though not as speckled) warm olive egg in the box when she flew out for breakfast. So either both OEs are laying, or it's just a variable color day to day.
