Ok, thanks. I wanted 2 females so I can put my green split white in with my silver pied and leave them with my green spalding next season. I also have a bronze that they said was male, but I think it might be female
Are all bronze females infertile? These pics are a little old. His/her whole chest is now blackish. No white on it anymore. Its all solid (which kinda makes me think male)
Bronze females are generally not infertile. I have had all of mine produce viable eggs. I think it may be charcoal that you are thinking about. the pics you just posted look like a male, but I'm not sure of the colour. The original pics are definately female.
You're right. I got it mixed up. Whew.lol. I have just had such a crazy summer, I think my brain got fried from all this heat. I appreciate everyones help. I actually hope that ones a female too, but I do think it is a male.
they look like black shoulders to me /// we used to have india blues , whites, black shoulders , and pieds.. they look like black shoulders to me.. good luck with them. they can be wonderful

In the hobby, names are primarily given as to how the males look.. how females look are pretty much irrelevant. Lately there's been a trend of sorts to use "barred wing" (India Blue pattern) or "solid wing"(black shoulder pattern). But ironically, IB females are "solid winged" and BS females are not "solid winged"...
India Blue hens don't have blue on their necks. Both of them are hens. Bronze is a male- the area below neck turning dark is a classic clue. That area stays light colored on Indian females(this area can get streaks on some black shoulder females, sometimes they are called "Seipel"). Spalding hens can and do have this area turn dark, it's not the same as on the males though.
yes first pics are two india blue hen(which have green color necks) Kev is right most colors are the color of the males neck, now silver pied the hens do have silver color on their backs.
All of this has been a great help and very informative. Why does Herc have so much brown on him along with green? The head is brown and the body is primarily shades of brown. Here has a dark green head. Is that indicative of anything specific?
