Ok, so I am a complete newbie to raising chickens and thought everything was going great. Got 24 Cinnamon Queens on April 5 as 1 day olds. They look healthy and are growing great and are even friendly to me and my family. Then someone goes and asks me if their combs are red? Well most are a pinkish/red color. None are bright red some are lighter than others. Should I be concerned? They are happy and healthy looking. Great feathers and bright eyes. Not pecking at each other. Just no red combs! They are so sweet I don't want anything to happen to them. Feeding chick starter still since they aren't very old(10 weeks?). Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hold the phone, don't worry about the color of their combs...it takes awhile for them to develop the red color is a sign of maturity, not the sex of the bird. Combs grow into many different sizes and shapes too...I don't know the breed, a pic would help, as long as they look healthy to you, there are. Some chickens are bred to sex by color, so if you bought that type as a sure thing for pullets they are. Ten weeks is too young to produce, maybe at 16 to18 weeks, you see more color, it can take longer. Usually the roos of a same breed will start to show larger combs than the pullets of same age. Hope that helps some.

Trust your instincts. If they look happy and healthy and are eating, drinking, and pooping well, everything is good. I'm not familiar with that breed either, so I'd love to see a picture too if you could post one.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel much better now. They are all pullets. My daughter is raising them for a county extension project for 4H and FFA. She is supposed to show 3 of them in the county fair. They are a sex link so I assume they are all girls. Hope so cause I call them "the girls".
Thanks again for the information. Sure I will have more questions as we go along since its our first try at chickens. loving it so far!

Well I also changed my profile picture to one of "the girls" pics so you can see them. Thanks again everyone!
