Wondering what might be wrong with my hen. She has been treated for water belly in the last month. I noticed she started walking around with her tail down and was beginning to isolate herself. I originally thought she might have an impacted crop so I started treating her for that but now I am thinking she may need drained again. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Did you drain her before and get yellow or amber fluid? What did you treat with? Hens with water belly get that from reproductive conditions (salpingitis, egg yolk peritonitis, cancer) and fatty liver or other liver disease. Meat birds with it get it more often from heart failure. When the abdominal cavity becomes full of ascites fluid, or with salpingitis and EYP, the crop may slow down or not function well. The condition will eventually kill them, and I usually do not drain them, but try to make them comfortable and let them stay with their flock as long as possible. I have had a couple live 1-2 years with signs of water belly. The one hen I did drain was a pet and she was having difficult labored breathing. It helped for a few days, but she died within 2 weeks.

When I drained her it was more of an amber color fluid. Afterwards she perked right back up and was back with the flock like she didn't miss a beat. I want to do all I can for her, seems like she has just never been back to 100% after she had a very hard molt.
