Just looking for some insight about what could have happened to one of my chicks.
one of my 2 week old ringneck chicks died today, the one that would run forward then suddenly reverse and back up into the wall and such I had mentioned in another post. The past few days I noticed he was a third smaller than the others and didn't have the wide open perky eyes and was hunched up not jumping and bouncing around. It was eating, no build up of waste on the vent area ether. I was hoping to get some vitamins for the water from tsc tomorrow but sadly it didn't make the night

Thanks,
Heather.

I'm sorry.

Sometimes chicks are deformed and can't digest food properly upon hatching. They may have crop problems, which can lead to the backing up. Backing up can mean they are trying to stop choking or swallow food properly. Signs of crop problems include a crop full of liquid or air or that is hard to the touch.

Recently we had to euthanize a chick (named "My Fav" because he was a Faverolle breed) because he suffered from a neurological condition, perhaps caused by head injury during shipping. He would run around, seemingly afraid of the other chicks. He would twist his head in an odd motion (a sign of a neurological condition) and cheeped a lot. He eventually couldn't walk.

Your chick could have just been weak from something like cocci, which caused him to remain smaller. Chicks are very fragile, and they go quickly when they are sick.

Anyways, I hope the rest of your chicks remain happy and healthy. Best of luck!
