What could it be?

The other day I noticed one of my hens huddled down in a corner by herself. She kept to herself for a couple days and tonight I found her dead. The other hens seem fine. Any ideas?

So sorry to hear about your hen.

The symptoms you describe could be any number of things, as any sick chicken will become a loner, huddle down, not eat, and be lethargic/listless. Parasites, egg problems, & many other diseases all look pretty much the same until you start looking at specifics.

We lost a fav hen last week to roundworms/coccidiosis. We noticed symptoms but took too long to diagnose & treat her. The hard lesson learned for us was that we must move from diagnosis to treatment immediately upon noticing that a bird is displaying any symptoms of illness, however subtle.
