I was on my way home today and, about a mile from the house, something ran across the road in front of me that resembled either a weasel or an otter. However, I'm pretty sure weasels are smaller (and from what we read they have bushy tails), but my son says the only otters around here (in Virginia) are river otters (this one crossed coming from a pond and heading to an old farm that also has a pond - no rivers nearby). It was probably at least 2-3 feet long from nose to base of tail, but didn't have a bushy tail; its tail was more like an otter's. I know there's some other type of animal I've read about on here that resembles an otter and can do massive damage to chickens. Any ideas? I've never seen one in the wild before, whatever it was!
