I have had some pigeons get sick every now and then but I’ve also had some die. The symptoms my fantails showed was: weak, light, fluffed up, watery droppings, and sometimes throwing up. They still ate and drank though. I’ve had 3 fantails who had this and they all came from the same place. But I have had them for over a year before they got sick. My two white fantails died from it one having got it twice. And my blue bar who had it once for a week and she’s been fine since.

Also more recently one of my crossbred pigeons got paralysed in her legs. She was flying around that day when I let her out but when she went in the loft where I found her she couldn’t walk. She was still eating and drinking. I kept her separate that night and when checking her in the morning she was walking and herself again and she has been ever since. I’m wondering if she could have caught it from one of my fantails as she had raised the white Hens squab up when she got sick. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a demo coli syndrome or parymyxosis virus

Have you tried treating the entire loft with a round of antibiotics? I had two YBs with what appeared to be normal YB disease that persisted over 2 weeks, but then also noticed one of my mature cock birds had a bad cough (thus respiratory illness of some kind), and after speaking to my mom (who is a vet) and a few experienced pigeon fanciers, I ran a course of strong antibiotic through my loft and it fixed everything within a few days (continued full round of the antibiotics, which was 7 days). The antibiotic I used was the relatively strong combo of Tylan and Ammoxicillan (together called "Tylamox"), because I was told the weaker broad spectrum anti biotic I had may not work against the respiratory illness. The Tylamox came in powdered form to be put in the pigeon's water (dechlorinated water). While my pigeons were being treated with this antibiotic I took their normal seed mix food away and replaced it with a non-medicated chicken layer pellet that included probiotics, just to make sure their gut health was maintained throughout and after the antibiotics. It worked great (although they did a lot of pooping). This was several months ago, and all are well now.

I haven’t yet. Btw sorry for the extremely late comment. I haven’t had any sick birds yet and I guess it’s a possibility they may have a respiratory infection as my dads chickens do, but they don’t show nearly near the same symptoms the chooks have. The chickens cough, breath heavily, have a ill stance, and are just tired looking. My pigeons just end up to stop flying and get fluffed up with runny green droppings (something I haven’t seen in ages in the loft).

I will still try and run a wormer then a antibiotic through the loft as I want to sell some birds soon if you think I’ll be able to? Also I wonder if they got sick due from possibly eating something or the loft as it’s a bit dusty which is a pain, what should I do about that? Thanks
