What could of killed my chicken?

I went into the run today, and was mssing one of my little barred rocks

(my favorite) and couldn't find her. I called her name and looked all over the coop and run for her. Then i saw her in the garden which is right next to the coop. There was no blood or open wounds. But she was stiff and dead. Could this have been a cat?

Be sure to check out the perimeter of your coop and run. Whatever it was, you don't want the others to have the same fate.

Something could have frighten her into running into something, caused a heart attack or she could have eaten something that hurt her internally. If you've checked her carefully and found no wounds chances are it wasn't a coon, possum, hawk, cat or dog as they don't kill without leave some sign of it. A small, insignificant wound could be a weasel, however. The kill by severing a jugular and then lap up the blood so you have to look real close for the wound.
