I have a sweet little Easter Egger who is almost a year old. Today I went out to check on my girls and she was hunched and puffed up just standing there. She normally is the first one out running around so I know something is up. She has very runny white watery poop. Her crop feels normal. It’s not hot here- in Mn so the temp is about 45 at the moment. Everyone else is acting normal and fine so I removed her from the flock to keep an eye on her. Do I just wait to see what happens or should I be treating her for something?

Can you post a pic of her? When was the last time she laid an egg? Is she eating/drinking?

Could be alot of things going on, exactly what I don't know.

Fluffing up can be a sign of fever, so she must be fighting an illness.

She is eating a tiny bit and did drink a little bit of water. To be honest I am not sure when she last laid an egg. How will I know if she’s egg bound? I’ll have to get a pic of her to share.

How old is she? Does she lay? If so, when was the last time she laid an egg? Check to see if she could be possibly egg bound. Check to make sure her crop is good as well. I’ve read Coccidiosis can cause the symptoms she has.

I have an update on little Fern! I continued to research reasons for why a chicken would be lethargic.. I came across an Epsom salt flush and having an impaction somewhere in their digestive track most likely the gizzard. I thought you know it wouldn’t hurt to try it.. I mixed 1 tsp Epsom salt with an ounce of warm water. Let it dissolve and gave her little doses of it every 10-15 minutes. I didn’t get the entire ounce in her but I bet I did about half. After a few hours I gave her water and she drank a lot of water.. shortly afterwards she had a few messy poops that were really running but this time there was actually substance in it. Over the next twelve or so hours she was acting more energetic and she was eating scrambled egg. I put her back in with the other feathered beasts and I am happy to say her poops are normal and she is running around acting all crazy like she normally does. I think she had an impaction deeper in her digestive track.
