I know nothing about the silver gene, but that has nothing to do with barring that I'm aware of. . The barring from the mothers passes to the son. If the male is barred, all chicks will be barred to a degree. I am no genetics expert at all, but since I have BR hens and roosters, I've learned about that aspect.
