This sounds straight up like “Sasquatch”….. Seriously it sounds like an animal!
raccoons are famous for opening difficult locks and doors… but this close to Halloween !!!!

It's what I wanted to say too, my hubs and I love the mystery around sasquatch! but after reading more I realized op was about to go on a trip and didn't want to freak her out

Not much more I can do, there. They are in a barn at night and surrounded by a wire loafing pen surrounded by electric fencing. It's a lot of effort for a bear to go through. The birds are in a more accessible area, but they are also inside an electric fence.

I woke up this morning to find a weird scene:

My SUV car door open. Handle is 3 1/2 feet up.

The contents of the trunk strewn about the car

The goat feed I store in there all over

The bucket I keep my goat feed in about 50ft away from the car with the lid ripped off and puncture marks

Zero damage to the car or its interior, no claw marks, tracks, scat - nothing. Nothing on the ground or anywhere on the car's exterior that I can see.

Quick backstory: We're getting ready to leave for vacation, so I stocked up on supplies, which were still in the trunk of my car. I keep the goat feed in reused kitty litter buckets for convenience. I keep it in the car for the moment because my goats got into it a few weeks ago, so I'm trying to figure out a storage solution. In the meantime, I thought the back of my SUV was secure. I was wrong, clearly.

There's also a strong skunky/musky smell. And nothing else is touched (garbage cans on the side of the house, bags of chicken feed also in the trunk, etc).

Happened some time between 4:00am and 5:30am. Hubby leaves for work at 4. I went outside and discovered the scene at 5:30.

So what do y'all think did this?

My son says BIG FOOT after looking up 'skunky/musky'....and proceeded to tell me how it could open the doors etc.

I might take that over a bear! Tell your son there have been lots of Bigfoot sightings in the woods.

It's kind if a long thread, but we figured out it was a bear because it left a bite mark that is too large for a raccoon. And it flattened the neighbor's fence in 2 places.

I don't blame you. I like bears on the Alaskan Webcam feed on YouTube. I know that's good and far away.
When I was a teen, a neighbor had a bear. They ran a private wildlife sanctuary. Dozer belonged to someone illegally and the illegal owner had all his teeth and claws removed. He came to the sanctuary after that. We went down there to meet him and he sucked on my fingers like a baby (through the bars of his enclosure). I felt so bad for him, he had been through a lot.

Oh my gosh. That's so sad.
