What did you do in the garden today?

View attachment 1418836 View attachment 1418838 View attachment 1418837 When I was finishing up pulling the grass out of the garden around my tomatoes I noticed two of my Martian giant slicers plants are having issues. Or maybe they’re not issues but not something I’ve seen before. One of them which is the first two pictures and very hard to see has these small odd bumps on the stem And a few days I noticed one of the branches had leaves that were turning brown and didn’t seem good they were just odd looking so I Snipped that branch off and today I noticed there was two more branches like that. So I’m not sure what’s causing that either or if the bumps on the other tomato plant or a problem.
In my limited experience, bumps low on the main stem and low branches are usually root buds. Mine get them later in the season when the weather is hot and dry. And If you mound up soil around it, it will send out new roots.

Yep, root buds.

It could be, I guess, but I haven't seen any blood in her poop. Nor is anyone else acting sick. I don't want to treat 'em if they don't have it. I'll see what she looks like tonight after I get home. Thanks guys!

I like to give my girls probiotics if they look a little ill, and I can't figure out what it is because the symptoms aren't very specific. I give it until other symptoms appear, or they just seem to get better.

I choose to use probiotic capsules, as opposed to yogurt most of the time because they are stronger, and usually contain more than one type of gut-friendly bacteria. Also, I can mix the powder with soaked feed, so everyone gets a dose. I know if it's fungal or bacterial, it will often help balance all of that out, unless it's something probiotics can't kill.

That being said, sometimes the probiotics give them extra stinky, runny poops at first, but that passes once the balance is reached.

I transplanted my year old avocado out of the 1 gallon pot into a larger pot. It went into shock and dropped all it's leaves. Now 2 months later it's starting to grow leaves again. 14" below where they had been.

The leaves are at the first squirrel attack. I don't know weather ti leave the top or cut it off.

Hmm--that's a good idea, dunmom. The capsules, I mean. I'm giving yogurt with live cultures, but I'll try that, as well. Thanks!
It's just something I always have in my fridge for my personal use as I'm really susceptible to yeast overgrowth, but I don't mind sharing. I know some people don't use human probiotics for their chickens because they believe if it's not a poultry specific product, it might be harmful, but I haven't had any trouble from human probiotics with my girls.

ever think giving all this to them if they do need help you have dosed them so much
JMHO
Considering the amount of stuff that some folks give their chickens, or put on them, I've been relatively hands off with my girls. I don't have any reason to believe that some probiotics a handful of times in 2 years is too much. But, different strokes for different folks...
