What did you do in the garden today?

Hey @ChocolateMouse I didn't get a chance to say anything but it sounds like you had a great day. What a nice way to spend your Solstice :highfive:

I kept it simple, watered the garden and burned some candles all day. Just me and hubs so we enjoyed sunrise with coffee and sunset with a shot of good whiskey :clap

That sounds like a fine way to spend your solstice. I like beach bonfires, but didn't have one this year. I had to put my sweet Abe to sleep yesterday. He was 17, and had been in decline for the past few weeks. I had hopes he would rally, but no. It was time, he was in pain. Hardest thing about having pets. We're sad over here.

More on the garden later--got good stuff coming in.

I’m so sorry. It’s one of the hardest things to do. I’m glad to know he’s not in pain anymore but either way I know it hurts. I’m all teary-eyed now:hugs

Thanks Rachel. I was a mess all day yesterday. I love my weird little thing (his nickname was the WLT).

Awww, deepbluesea, that's unfortunate. :( I'm very sorry to hear that. 17 is a long life for a pupper, as I'm sure you know, and I'm confident you did everything you could to make his life a good one. I know there's no way to help, loosing a dog just sucks because we love them, but I hope you feel better soon.

I am sorry it is the hardest part

I'm so sorry! That's so hard and sad. Went through that recently also, and I catch myself talking about her like she's still here. I guess part of me is having trouble letting go. Grief is weird...

Today it's been raining extremely lightly all day but the weather honestly feels great.

I went out and tied up the last bed of tomatoes and started adjusting some of the tomatoes on the first two beds. They don't care to straighten out much for me so I have to keep tying them to get them to stop being squiggly S's lying on the ground.
I also weeded that back-most bed thoroughly. It was a mess, with smartweed and asters and grasses popping up like crazy in between the tomatoes. Not great but I tossed them in the chicken pen and they had a feast.
I went to home depot last week and bought some plants. I found Bee balm there which was exciting... But I also picked up some cucumbers that were 4 to a pot. Today I went out to plant them, only to find my cucumbers FINALLY coming up! I have been trying to get ANY cucumbers to sprout for literally months and none ever did. Now some of the seeds are finally coming up! So I will be planting these other cukes further down the trellis.
Also at home depot I picked up 80 red onion sets for $1.50 (they were half off). I planted those today in the bed that was supposed to be potatoes but D planted them wrong. Fingers crossed I get a good onion crop out of them and they help drive away the wireworms from that potato box.
I also cut my garlic scapes today. I have some purpley wild hardneck garlic that grows in my lawn all over, and I cut scapes from all but the biggest, best looking plants. In a couple months, as the ones I left go to seed, I will dig up the others which will be bulbs and weed heavily around the ones I left so they can spread some nice big garlics for me for next year!
