What did you do in the garden today?

Came home and rabid raccoon in my shed growled at me. Going to pick up MIL .22. Never shot and an animal but need to protect my chickens. How do I feel better about this once it done. It’s gonna take everything out of me to pull the trigger. Have you guys dealt with this guilt or am I a big baby?
I would shoot it to keep it from spreading rabies to other folks or animals! A woman in Ga. got attacked by a rabid bob cat and it cost her 10,000. for the rabies shots!

Philip was my neighbor that saved the old rose from a fence needing repair I planted it in a pot but it was a bit stunted he passed and it took off his spirit lives in that rose two photos of each from James.. it seems the peace rose is also a climber with variegated flowers from yellow to pink

Rachel, first, you don't know that the coon is rabid. That can't be diagnosed without an autopsy. But, based on the coon's behavior, you can make the assumption that the coon is sick, and knowing that is enough reason to dispatch it. You always need to assume that any wild animal is carrying some disease that could make you very sick, rabies being the most feared, but there are plenty of other diseases out there that can also be lethal!

When I was younger, I would have had issues killing an animal. And I still don't take such action lightly. However, I have no problem killing any varmint that is posing risk to my animals, my yard, and my gardens. I simply do what is best for my family, home, and animals.

Oh sorry just read all these posts and I am so sorry for you Penny. I’m glad your such a tough lady so you can still do some of what brings joy to your heart. I feel like that sometimes can help the health. You amaze me! Such a strong attitude and will and at least being able to not have it bring you down physically or mentally and still able to love and appreciate what you can do and what you have. Sounds like you have a wonderful BF too. I bet you’ve inspired people whether you know it or not

That is awesome. 95 yrs?!

Made our first jars of tomato sauce. Saved some seeds from a big Cherokee Purple tomato. Those are some tasty tomatoes! Now I'm mostly just waiting for stuff to grow. A little weeding and watering here and there. My bush beans look like they're giving me one last push of blooms. Somehow, I got pole bean seeds mixed in, because I have a few of those just now putting on their first blooms. Totally unsupported though. Lol!

After fiasco when I first get home... I didn’t kill him but he’s not alive anymore Went into my garden got 3 lbs of yellow squash and 1 lb of snap beans. 2 of the squash are huge... he watered didn’t harvest... so those will likely become bread. There’s more coming too. All peppers starting to form First session of carrots almost ready and lots of green tomatoes!!!! But along with lots of growth was lots of bugs!!!! Storms this evening so getting that taken care of in the morning
