What did you do in the garden today?

God Jule everyone! Working on final planning for spring set outs. Spreading alpaca and hardwood manure for the next couple of weeks in the pollinator garden and in the blueberry beds. Considering installing a post and hog panel fence around the garden. The thought of digging hole makes me ill. LOL.

@penny1960 , you just wished non-christians a merry christmas which is perfectly fine by me since I generally appreciate it when people wish me well.
But you have also made reactive remarks (twice now) about us wishing you/eachother a happy yule being too "PC". With that in mind, when do you think it's appropriate for non-christians to express their holidays? In this case it seems like I'm both not allowed to wish others a happy Yule (twice you could not accept this without remarking about how saying something other than merry christmas is too PC for you) and I'm ALSO not allowed to receive a happy Yule from you in return (also too "PC" for you to say yourself). So could you tell me when is it NOT "too PC" for me to acknowledge my holiday without reactive commentary? I'd really like an answer here. :p

We finally got to serve those squashes in the vegan pie and it came out awesome! All my veg*n friends were super thrilled and it tasted great. Somehow the pie crusts we got shrunk terribly and collapsed into the pan but we somehow found our store brand puff pastry is vegan. Which was both an exciting discovery because it's tasty and it also made a pretty competent pie crust, though not as nice as the hot water crust we put the game pie into of course. The decorations also came out lovely, though I forgot to nab a photo before it got chopped into.

We also tidied up the gardens a little (put away some tools and lawn stuff, picked up loose pots, etc.) and it was really nice out this morning, cold and a little drizzly but not bad. Then this evening it started to snow! Hooray! I'm happy to have snow on the longest night. It just feels good. :)

Now that my holidays are over it's time to start planning the new garden for the year! Time to start browsing the seed catalogs and learning about new varieties. They help keep me up and motivated while I maintain my Yule log fire overnight.

Oooo which squash did you plant and turn to pie. I am planting several varieties of old squash this year for their flavor. I am hoping we have a decent water year. Otherwise I will lay another low irrigation line to the patch.

Rare seed catalogs already perused, ordered from, and passed along.

I really need to get on with ordering blueberries.

Bring on the sunlight!

Oh man, bring on the sunlight indeed! I'm hype for this year! :)

I grew honey nut butternuts and crown pumpkins. The crown pumpkins had some serious problems and I only got one. It was a nice taste, a little bit cucumber-y and savory which was really good. The honey nuts tasted great and were very productive but stored terribly. A bunch of them went bad leading up to Yule.

I will probably try acorns again this year. :)

Did not intend to offend anyone have never been very PC sorry irritates me here we all take each other as we are I am sorry if I offended you

I'm doing Boston Marrow, blue hubbard, and orange butternut. Last year we had no problems with squash beetle. But i didn't plant due to the previous year being horrible. Just can win for guessing!

I'm going to plant squash in our huge pollinator garden, away from other squash and cuke plantings and cross my fingers.

Again, you seem to expect that I take you as you are without offering me the same courtesy.

I do not think you would be very pleased if I made snide remarks every time you said 'Merry Christmas'. I am merely asking for the same courtesy you would offer anyone who celebrates christmas and, as you say, that you take me as I am.

This is not about being PC. This is about being decent to another human being.

:::Hanging head::: I am SOOO far behind in my holiday baking. I might just make enough for any drop by neighbors with swap goodies. Seriously though, the chocolate covered cherries ARE done, but I SHOULD have done them weeks ago. They won't be ready for eating for another couple of weeks.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time CM. I had to work, started well after sunrise and off before sunset, so it was just me and hubs this year. We had bbq'd salmon with a salad and asparagus. The altar was lovely, the sunrise was beautiful!

Our Yule fire can be only one night most of the time, then there are burn restrictions because of air quality.

Enjoy your seed catalogs, I'll be erecting the greenhouse and planting some tomatoes and lettuce. Already have some carrots in :yesss:
