What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. My, you all have been quite busy since yesterday morning (East Coast time). Congratulations @Acre4Me, it took me numerous decades to learn but patience does pay off. I hope you have a bumper crop. Yesterday was laundry day, however I managed to get the front yard mowed and one of the lilac shrubs pruned up. Also put more fertilizer down late afternoon. We've had a nice slow gentle rain throughout the night and this morning. This is garden friendly type rain. Looking at the ragged broccoli plants, there are three plants looking like they're making a comeback. So perhaps I'll have a bit of fresh broccoli at least. And best of all, no sign of that beastly groundhog. Moving on to tomatoes. Yes @WthrLady, tomatoes tasted immensely better when we were kids (that would be way more than 50 years ago for me). I'm guessing all this making them disease resistant and drought resistant and whatever else has drained the flavor out of them. Homegrown are still more flavorful than the hothouse grown red balls stacked up in the grocery stores. Next year I'm hoping to use seed from this years Roma crop and see what comes up. I really want to start on the seed saving and methods to improve the yields naturally. Have a great day everyone. Keep the photos coming, they are all lovely.:thumbsup

Good Morning Gardeners :frow
Juvenile hawks are starting to hunt. Walked out and one is sitting on the fence and then he swooped I ran yelling and waving.
He tried 3 dives did NOT care that I was there! It was after something in my tree.
The chickens are fine they all hid. My LH was hiding right outside my door and she alerted me as soon as I stepped out. This all happened in like 10 seconds!
We have a forecast for extreme heat out west. Got my misters up and running. So much for springtime.
The four seasons in the Desert are hot, very hot, Death Valley Hot! Then winter...lol.
Have a great day Gardeners!
Keep an eye on the sky.:thumbsup

Slugs do not get around that fast salt in a mayo lid work wonderful for slugs and dog will not drink it many will the beer they are born lushes .. need to plant more mustard also maybe tomorrow been going like gangbusters all day tired Goodnight

We share a beer here once in a while and the dogs like to have a bit.

Any advice on weed prevention? We have had a lot of rain and because of it I have not been able to pull weeds. We're all organic so we cant use pesticides. I laid down some landscaping fabric to take out the weeds between the rows. I tried laying down newspaper to make it so we only had to pull around the plants but it didnt work. The newspaper ended up getting swept away by the wind and didnt stick to the ground even after wetting it. I just know im doing something wrong. We plan to use mulch next year but we dont have any this year to use. We have too many trees for us to say its worth buying mulch when we can make our own.

If you cover the cardboard suggested with wood chips it helps hold it down and it composts faster as well.

I’m not sure what’s going on but I have a few different plants looking pale in the leaves too. I’m going to try feeding them. I’m thinking the rain washed out nutrients or their root balls are in too much water. I’m still working on my drainage and it only effects a few plants (strange) I haven’t seen eggs or insects no lacing or curl of leaves I’m kinda stumped. We’ve had so much rain too

My pea plants are all dying amd getting pale as well. I think too much rain as well.

So very real. I forgot to add in my little spiel that yesterday, while speaking to my neighbor's gardener, Mama hawk from across the street was playing with a blue jay and landed on my front step. They both sat there for a whole minute. OMG! I didn't have my phone so I couldn't get a picture. I got a real good look at her so maybe I can figure out what kind of hawk she is. I know it's a hawk, but she is one beautiful bird.

The lot across the road from us has contractors building a house. Apparently their well diggers they chose to use are inept, because they knocked out our power this morning. My husband said they did not call and have the lines marked, which they are required to do, so it is going to get messy. Our power lines are buried. The power company people came out and are MAD. They were yelling at the well digging company. They told us that power will be out all day, at the least.

So no water, as we have an electric well pump. Garage door is electric, and we haven't gotten around to fixing the chain for the manual release. Last time we tried it, it fell and the garage door broke. Now we have a brand new garage door, so I am not going to attempt to open it. Luckily hubby parked outside, so he was able to go to work.
No air conditioning...and today is going to be sunny for once! Ugh.

Stuck at home with two kids, with no water, no power, and we live too far out to walk anywhere.
