What did you do in the garden today?

Yep.
Electrolytes I’m sure you’re on top of those too. You can tell me to stop ya know :lau
Yup. Me and Gatorade...best buddies...even if it all does taste like alpaca weee

Sunscreen....and to keep the flies off...cheap baby cornstarch powder. Who knew! I'm the best smellin thing in the barn!

Good morning gardeners. I'm bracing for the heat wave that is rolling in later today. The Lobster roll picnic went really well yesterday. I even indulged in a small scoop of ice cream (I'm lactose intolerant). It was yummy, but I don't think I'll be doing that again soon. I wasn't able to get the backyard mowed yesterday. I wanted to give the girls some extra "free range" time because Wednesday was short due to rain. I was in a really good mood yesterday but the chickens seemed/ actually were quite "bitchy" even the rooster. Then the baby hawk kept flying overhead really low. I pulled the pea plants this morning and moved their little trellis' to the cucumbers and butternut squash plants. I picked another zucchini and my first cucumber. I watered the grass seed/baby grass and the flowers in the front yard. I'm excited because I noticed my fig tree is getting more leaves along the base of the center "trunk." I hope I get a couple of figs out of it this autumn. The two raised beds with the leeks & carrots then the pole beans and cukes must not have enough organic material in them because despite all the rain they got on Wednesday they are really dry now. I'll be watering them after Yoga this morning. Your baby chicks are adorable @Acre4Me. To you @MountainGaurdian, if the elk and the moose are jumping over the fence to get into your garden try putting in posts or other structures so they don't have a clear spot to land in. Also, almost forgot. Leaf/ powdery mildew. I got an article from The Old Farmer's Almanac today regarding this. Apparently it's not always caused by wet leaves. I encourage you to go to their site and search for powdery mildew remedies for plants. Have a great day everyone and stay cool.

Rained a lot yesterday in a short period of time. About 1-1.25” in maybe an hour, so all the low spots were mini-lakes.

Sprayed the copper again today since it has been very wet and humid and am seeing some problems here and there. Very hot today and tomorrow - and humid, so no real relief until Monday.

Momma hen is happily teaching chicks all kinds of chicken things. They will stay in the brooder for now.

Spouse is putting in the 4x4 posts to begin to finish the roof over the rest of the run. We have 20’ done (metal roof and coop roof combined), now will complete the other 30’. We are planning in room for a door into the barn if we so choose later on -the space available for a door is limited by the vertical posts of the barn structure and the placement of windows in the barn, but there is a 31” opening (max) for that future addition if we choose. Also, spouse planned in an additional coop (if desired) on the north side of the run, so the post placement is also based on that potential future addition! This way, if we decide to focus on a particular breed or to have a flock of bantams or silkies, they can have their own space separate from the mixed flock.

Cherry tomatoes are still the only ripe tomatoes. Cucumbers are slowly starting to develop. A few peppers are beginning to turn red. The purple Marconi peppers are just starting to turn purple, after which they will turn red. Looking forward to trying all the varieties of peppers we planted (I think 12 varieties).

Not that hot here yet. I got home from Yoga class and watered the herb beds and the two new garden beds. My grass seed is actually starting to grow in the front yard so I may water that twice a day during this little heat wave. Stay cool @WthrLady.

SO so so hot and dusty. Going to take a break and pop out and get the irrigation system going while it's in the shade.

Walked past the garden on my way in. The tomatoes need tied up. I'll do that this evening while I feed the mosquitoes.

Those darn red ends on the irrigation lines. I catch a glimpse of those and think "oooo tomato!"

This time last year, I canned by first batch of tomatoes and pickles were done. Geesh.

Alpacas are fed and are currently having a spitting contest. When I went out they were lounging in the barn under the fan. ((Flies)) are awful, but I'll deal with them later too.

DS took the day off and he's pre-hydrating before he goes out and waters the alpacas. He loves hosing them off. Must be a boy thing.

I'm going to try to finish this band on the loom, and get another on there.

I'm also glad I don't have another shooting competition tomorrow. 6 hours in this heat at that range is a nauseating nightmare. (Went to that match 3 years in a row and it's been awful, so I decided to skip this year. Good call.)

OH! and for anyone that is interested I earned all my Swiss and Canadian Mounted qualifications. Now that summer matches are over, I need to go back to taking care of the ground squirrel issue.

Here are my 3 cherry tomato types. "Wheatley Cherry" (smallest), "Black Cherry", and "Fox Cherry". Fox cherry wins for size and quantity, and overall health. Haven't eaten enough to say which I like best. 2 views (from bottom and from the side).
