What did you do in the garden today?

I stopped using rain barrel water from roof runoff when I found out how many viral issues came from wild birds along with it. We're on a major migration route, so I don't need that in the hen house.

For clarification, were you using it in the garden or watering your birds with it?

I'm asking because I've considered this as a possible risk and you've confirmed something on my research list. I was thinking that using the reclaimed water where the chickens can't go would be best.

The rain barrel water is ONLY for my garden & compost pile - not the chickens. I figure I wouldn't want to drink it so I'm not making them!
Our local extension told us not to use it on edible garden plants either. Doesn't matter as the hard winter had all the bottoms fall out of the barrels anyway. LOL:lau

Happy Belated Birthday Penny!!

Good morning Have a great day everyone and Happy Birthday Penny!

Thank you all had a wonderful day thanks to my BF and Son

I had Gastric surgery to help out. I still have about 150 to loose.

Again, good for you! A great strategy for enjoying the rest of your life as much as possible.

My husband also had a GB a good number of years ago to control his diabetes. Now he's about 2/3 spare parts but he's 71 and that means he's outlived his mother, his father and his older brother who all died prematurely from heart conditions.

I am VERY grateful to still have him. And grateful to his doctors and years that medicine that wasn't available to the rest of his family has provided for both of us.

Glad you can look forward to a long life like your gran. And that you're making it the healthiest one possible!

Happy birthday Penny!!
Unfortunately, I can't tell the gender of your Marans. Hopefully, someone else will be able too!

Picked some green beans from the bush beans. I too am seeing some blooms starting on the pole beans. I also picked a cucumber and have another one ready to pick as well.
Cleaned the chicken coop yesterday.
