What did you do in the garden today?

Feels almost hot out! Very sunny this afternoon, still in the 50s. We got the fire going already. It’s a bit windy, but not too bad. We are going to try to cook, over the fire, one of the meat chickens we butchered a couple of weeks ago. Hope it tastes good!

Like your outdoor fire pit well done @Acre4Me We use a moveable metal kettle of sorts quite large Son has had like 15 years now

Thanks! We had one of those big cast iron fire pits (looked like a big witches cauldron with stars and moon cut out on the upper edge)... that is until last year, when the 12 yo was allowed to park the van. The 12yo ran over the fire pit and essentially flattened it, scraped the van along the side of a tall wooden post the fire pit was near, and didn’t even make it into the parking spot next to the barn. :barnie

So we now have the fire pit made with some blocks.

kid was fine. Luckily kid was trying to park the old van.

Ah darn this has a screen top like I said he has had it a long time yes I think it may cast iron it does get moved most driving in the yard proper is with the side by side he has moving feed or shavings to the coops

Rain seems to be slowing thankfully.

I posted this in the other thread but...

Thanks all, she's gone. She stopped drinking and eating altogether & would barely even open her eyes, it was time. My neighbors came over with the cone & helped as we've never had to do it before.

She was very thin, I think shed been hiding her illness for a while, as I understand they do.

Bummer :(
Sorry.
=========

I dropped Sheldon off. I opened up his little travel crate as 24 big red hens stared at him. He looked up at me as if to say, 'what fresh hell is this!?'

LOL. I shook him out and he headed for a corner. By the time I left he was sitting high on the roosting perch and crowing/yodeling his little head off.

Her set up is dry and out of the wind, and he'll get fed and have his own flock. So that's good.

He'll be fine. His sisters have been looking for him all day. I'm sure they'll miss their roost snuggle buddy tonight, but they'll adapt.

Sorry for the loss, but know that it was better to end her suffering. Glad your neighbors could help!
