What did you do in the garden today?

73 tomorrow, so LOTS of chores and the hens will all be out running amok.

THen the bottom falls out for the rest of the week. Temps not breaking the freezing point for highs and the lows...bleh 4-6 degrees. I am not a fan. But we'll be back to 50 by next weekend.
Crazy weather. That’s why I use shower curtains on my run. They’re easy to pull back in warm days.

We have not had a solid freeze need at least a week to kill the fleas out here
no rain yet maybe tomorrow asked my new Doc check the thyroid t4, 3 and 7 she ordered it went to Morton hospital this am they did it the one gal is great my veins have never recovered ac she can hit one in my hand every time

That sounds like an interesting combination, how did you prepare them? Nice haul on the pumpkins too!

The recipes came from our own @jlwquilter! The are posts numbers 46469 & 46470 in the "how many eggs did you get today?" thread.
But the basics are:
1 cup of pumpkins seeds ( cleaned and dry)
2 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp chili powder 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cummin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp black pepper
I mixed it all together and then spread it on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet. Put in a 250 degree oven for 45 minutes. Stirred every 15 minutes. Then increased temperature to 350 for 5 minutes. Cool and eat.

Second recipe
1 tablespoon oil
2 cups pumpkin seeds ( clean & dry)
1/2 tsp celery salt ( I used celery seed)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
I mixed it all together, spread it out on parchment lined cookie sheet. Baked 45 minutes at 250 degrees. Stirred every 15 minutes. Finished at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Cool & eat.

Third recipe
2 cups pumpkin seeds ( clean & dry)
2 tablespoons oil ( I only used 1 tablespoon)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp hot sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cummin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Mixed all together and spread on parchment lined cookie sheet. Baked 45 minutes in 250 degree oven. Stirred every 15 minutes. Finished at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Cool and eat!

Thank you for sharing here! I'm goung to give that last one a try this weekend.

@Wee Farmer Sarah - my fig is staying outdoors through the winter! Bought a “Chicago hardy” one, says good in my zone. We planted it on south side, next to a brick wall and there is a large/dense bush to the west of it, so should help protect it from the worst of the winter winds. Hopefully it makes it!

planning to attend the Ohio Nationals Poultry show this weekend in Columbus. Should be interesting, they have over 8000 entries!

Good morning all. Another frosty morning. It was 18F when I rolled out of bed. As for yesterday when I posted it was 32F, well that lasted a whole 30 minutes then dropped down to 30F for the rest of the day. Then there was the wind. Brrr! It might get up to 40F today, nice. Good luck with your fig tree @Acre4Me. Since it is against a wall you could put a frame with some burlap on it to protect it from the worst part of winter. A lot of people here in New England put up cloth covered frames to protect their shrubs in winter. Some just use 2 pieces of plywood and make a "tee pee" for them. It looks like Sunday or Monday will be the best days to do any gardening tasks this weekend @Sueby. Despite the high winds yesterday, there was no new accumulation of leaves in my backyard. I thoroughly enjoyed all the pumpkin pictures @karenerwin. I keep fighting the urge to make pumpkin pie. Those lovely photos are not making it easy, but they are fun to look at. I'm kind of there with you @igorsMistress. I love winter too, but I love all the four seasons. Each one brings it's own beauty, challenges and adventures. Have a great day everyone.

You're right @Wee Farmer Sarah but I have to work on Monday so it better thaw out today! Lol. Up to 32 already so I should be ok.

Gotta cover the garlic with straw, dig dahlias & dig some spare dirt for the dust bath. But I just dropped DH off at the airport to go pick up our toterhome in AL & I'd rather stay inside & watch movies instead!

@Acre4Me I cant wait to see how the fig does!
