What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Thank you for sharing the photos @igorsMistress. It's nice to see green garden plants this time of year. Everything pretty much is brown and barren for the winter here. I'm glad you pulled yourself away from that meat grinder @karenerwin. You really needed a break. The weather here is crap again. Rain started early this morning and is forecasted to go on all day. Ugh! Laundry and cutting up the fresh turkey I bought. I'm going to try grinding the thigh meat, so that should be "fun." They started putting up the decorated trees before Halloween this year around here @WthrLady. Good grief. Too soon. They are nice to look at but I agree, you could spend a bit too much if your not careful. In defense of artificial trees @penny1960: I spent nearly all my childhood becoming horribly ill just in time for Christmas. Turns out I'm allergic to pine. I have used artificial trees throughout my adulthood and I'm just fine. I can tolerate a small fresh arrangement of pine boughs as long as I don't handle it. The aroma is great and I still enjoy the aroma. You know you're getting closer to the holidays when the TV meteorologists announce the best days to decorate during the weather forecast. LOL! Have a great day everyone. And to those of you travelling for the Thanksgiving holiday, be safe and keep a sense of humor. :)

Oh ya, Christmas stuff went out in September in some shops here. I'm sick of looking at it by October. We don't even do Christmas (I just put up a little thing for annual family ornaments). Every holiday here is rushed ahead of time. Sickening and ridiculous.

My dad and I would suffer horribly every winter with severe sinus headache. Turns out it was the tree. So we switched to fake, but then those are covered in dust and everywhere you go there were real trees everywhere else too, plus scents, perfumes, candles, smoke from fireplaces. BLEH.

Heading for 58 today. Already 53. Bees where out buzzing and clearing out more unwanted drones, so I opened the hive and checked their food levels and sealed them back up again.

I washed the window on the front of the house.

The tractor tire is on and the mulch is spread out front around the oak tree and address stone. The rake is off the tractor and the snow blade is on. I do need to get diesel while in the city tomorrow.

PHEW. At it's only one pm.

DS needs those two cakes for class, so I'll finish this post and get one in the oven and pop down to the workshop and get some woodwork done and some things put away while it bakes. Then put the second one in.

So, I've always admired the outdoor winter planters made with birch branches, assorted pine boughs, pine cones, etc., but I don't want to pay the prices they charge for the large ones sold at stores. Our two birch trees died a few years ago :hit, so today Hubs cut them down. Then he had me come out and tell him which branches I wanted cut, how long I wanted them, etc. I had him cut enough for three planters, and maybe next week I will begin working on them. I may also make some other decorations for inside the house with birch branches/logs, as well. I'm excited to get going on them.
Please post pictures! I love birch!

I would love to try those english muffins! One day when we're easting carbs again I will try. @Wee Farmer Sarah have you ever tried the english muffins from the Vermont Bread Co? They are super good, I would imagine close to home made.

We finally got the fence posts in YAAAY!!! We need to wait for the cement to cure & everything to settle before we hang the fence. Depending on the winter we have, it may wait till spring.

Nice day today. Chickens are laying pretty well, but less eggs than a couple of months ago due to some molting going on.

started Christmas gift shopping. So far, so good. I actually enjoy the post Thanksgiving Black Friday crowds, but I have little need to go out in the fray bc I don’t have to buy for too many people. The kid wants a pair of cowboy boots, so that is an easy big gift and now all I’ll need to do is shop for a few fun items and stocking stuffers for that one.

The other one lives in FL. This will be the third Christmas that I’ve had to mail presents to that child. Maybe this year, they will arrive before Christmas. The USPS service in FL is horrendous. Last year I mailed a regular size box via priority mail on Dec 13, so this was a full 11 days before Christmas and priority should be 2-3 days.....and the package arrived after Christmas!! This year my goal is to get it mailed by Dec 10 via Priority mail...wonder if the FL USPS can manage a 2-week window? :rant:he

tomorrow need to turn the compost and cut up more pumpkins.

Worked on scraping the deer hide today. Then my hubby tells me Google says to boil it with dish soap to remove the grease/fat. So I got a fire going and did that. Never did boil but water got very hot! I don't know how it turned out because it was well past dark when I finally pulled it out of the metal drum. I hung it back on the fence. I'm not sure, but I think the boiling it made it shrink! It looks smaller. :th
Hopefully, I didn't just create more work for my self.
My brother and his wife come in Wednesday evening to stay with us till Saturday. So, tomorrow is "clean the house" day. :lau Tuesday is run my mom on errands day.
