What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Well yesterday was all rain and wind. We got nearly 1.5 inches of rain. Fortunately the sump pump still works fine. I hadn't heard it running in a couple of months so I was a little concerned. I broke down the 13 + pound turkey I bought and it wasn't so bad. I got some choice cuts that would otherwise cost more than double the price. I also made 2.5 quarts of turkey broth. I haven't tried to grind the dark meat yet, will do that later today. The weather is supposed to milder, dry and sunny today and tomorrow so there's a little window of time to take care of some outside work. I believe I have tried the Vermont Company English Muffins @Sueby. However, if I do buy them, my favorite would be the Trader Joe brand. I think I figured out why my rooster was so grumpy for awhile. I noticed the hens got a little irritable when their new feathers were breaking through their skin, so I'm guessing Randy was feeling some of the same pain. He seems to have mellowed a bit now. Make sure you sit down and catch your breath once in awhile during your holiday preps and have a great day everyone.

My day just got a lot slower! I did something to my back while bending over to get clothes out of the dryer. :he Getting older sucks.:oops:
I had to have my husband go with me to run errands. Wasn't sure if I could drive. Definitely couldn't lift bags of chicken feed.

We dropped off the Thanksgiving turkey to my niece ( it's her birthday toady!). Dropped off some homemade seasoned pumpkin seeds to a friend and then went to the feed store to get more chicken feed.
Was supposed to be cleaning the house when I got home, but now that has gotten moved to delay mode.
It's gorgeous out today! Sunny, high of 66. I wish I could be outside doing stuff.
Oh, I did rake a bunch of leaves into the garden this morning before I hurt my back. I notice a lot of green shoots sprouting in the garden. I was confused at first, but then I remembered I threw a bunch of rye seed in there at the end of the season. They are finally sprouting. I'll have to keep an eye on them and make sure I turn them under to compost and help my soil.

Aloha garden gang,
Good to come back and look through some of your posts. It's good to hear the productivity. Such a cool thread.
@karenerwin love to hear more about your hide project.
@WthrLady spinning your alpaca wool?!!
Very cool. Both, are things I don't hear about everyday. :lol:

After what seemed forever, me, hiding from our summer sun, I now have the beginning of my temperature reprieve and the start of this seasons garden... I am officially taking back some of my space from the feathered marauders. We can now share in peace??? A truce??!!!
I thought a lot about how I was going to chicken proof what is left of my garden and how to reclaim it from the beasts. I settled on PVC because it is cheep, EASY and I can dissemble and reuse w/o storage issues. DH grabbed some throw away plastic fencing from his work, so that does the trick too. As slow as I have been at this project... life?? :confused: I did managed to get a few boxes covered and planted. Yeeehaa! I am looking through my seeds :lol: and I actually got to enjoy a salad with some of MY lettuce for the first time in a very, very long time. Most exciting!!! My Asparagus is cut back and protected... Thank you (not:rant) chickens. And I only have the tomatoes to finish up as far as the clock goes.
