What did you do in the garden today?

That sounds divine. Lots of hard work but a dreamy project really. Congratulations on the tons of soil and a job well done. I'm sure it was no fun cleaning up after :thand I hope all of that time/$$/effort pays off for you folks. I look forward to seeing the photos this spring and any you want to share now. Did you post any already? I can hunt for them.

It was late September that I posted some pics and information, and a few following that.

Here is the 102 tons of dirt spread out. We tilled up the existing grass, and let it die off and dry out for 2-3 weeks. Then the trucks delivered the dirt. Then a landscaper spread out the dirt for us, which only took him about 2 hours vs who-knows-how-long-for-us-inexperienced-bobcat-novices. Dirt was spread out to the south and east of the barn.

Lots of dirt from lots of dirt projects:

This garden dirt was delivered on top of the 102 tons of dirt and spread out to an approximate 20' by 30' bed:

This was the channel project. The first 60' we made it 11' wide. The next 130' we made 5' wide. We lowered it all by around 6" in the middle to 3-4" at the edges. There was already a shadow channel, but over the years and some ground settling and it was needing a little more definition. It doesn't look like much, but it was a lot of dirt.

Overview of the channel and raised berm we created. The berm is around 8" high. After all this, we had to seed grass and water a lot to get it growing, and to keep the cut turf healthy so it could re-establish itself. It all rebounded nicely and seed grew well!

And then, there was a ditch to dig for the barn gutters to drain onto the field behind us, rather than pooling up in our yard.

Whew! I'm tired all over again just looking at the pictures!

Sorry I'm so slow. Weather is a bear today, and will be until after midnight. I didn't make it home last night until well after dark and then chores took me until bedtime.

This morning was a quick trip to the post office to ship off all holiday gifts, so that's done.

Then another quick trip to market as it was down there too. They were STILL out of bagels. D'OH. So came home and made (am making) some as I get weather work done.

Looking at 4-8 inches by midnight. DS has a class that runs until 630pm. He'll probably be the only one that shows up. It's his ONLY class today. UGH. I told him I'd pick him up tomorrow around lunch after I'm done plowing.

Anyway. Here is the yarn. I am quite happy with it. If anyone wants the link to the sale page that starts tomorrow, let me know.

OK time to finish the bagels and get back to work. Anyone here really good with peonies? Bush type.

You ladies are amazing. I absolutely love the view @acre. I traveled through Ohio a few times, many years back and thought it beautiful. Coming from Hawaii I had rarely seen country like that. I am a romantic fool who thinks living on a farm would be awesome. Just not so good with the long winters. That scared me out of Colorado when I tried to relocate one time lol.
The yarn is fabulous @wthr. I will click on your site. I have a friend who knitts and would love that for x mas.
Well, I'd better get and do some chores b4 I feel like a total heel. Love what you peeps are doing! Mahalo for sharing!!!

This avocado tree was planted around 1956-58 by my husbands grandpa and pretty much left for dead from the 80's to when I showed up in '12. I have trimmed and fed it but the best was putting my compost bin next to it for a few years. It gave us a few inedible avo's two years ago and last year it gave us 5 avocados that we enjoyed for the first time since no one can remember. This year we have about 50 on it! Imua, the power of compost!!!

This Papaya tree beauty volunteered, growing out of my neighboring son's compost that is totally ignored with the exception of me putting water every two months maybe :D It has been giving us the best papaya's for a few months now.

Grandpa's orange tree still going strong, keeping us in free fruit all winter. It is a 2 season fruit giver.

Our weather is taking a turn, with a big cold front approaching tonight and lasting till Friday. Puts me back into the kitchen, no polehu for TG. Aloha gang!

I spent part of the morning and all of the evening and night ( till 11:30 PM) cleaning and scrubbing! My daughter's old room had a lot of white paint on the floor from when she still lived with us and she and I painted her room. She ended up walking in it and got it all by her door and to the right, up to her closet door. We tried getting it up after we finished painting ( many years ago) and we couldn't get it to come up. I spent 7 hours today scrubbing with a brush, a scrub pad, a paint scrapper, WD40, Ajax and lots of elbow grease! But I did manage to get most of it up!!:wee
I also bleached the concrete floor in the basement ( where we keep the cat litter box) and scrubbed the heck out of the toilet. We have hard water and that bathroom is rarely used so the stains and hard water deposits were very set. I used WD40 on that too. And then followed up with a couple treatments of CLR. But I was victorious. :celebrate
My brother and his new wife ( that I don't know very well) are coming to stay with us for the holidays. They probably would have been fine with the bedroom and bathroom the way they were, but I feel better now ( except that my wrist hurts from all that scrubbing! :lau) Eating some dinner and then heading to bed.
Tomorrow I am making BBQ porksteaks ( St. Louis is know for them) and some potato salad. I plan to have that ready for when they pull in around 6pm.
It rained most of the day here and now we have high winds with power outages predicted.
I'm hoping the deer hide is still salvagable but with all this rain and the warmer temps ( 50's & 60's) I'm not sure it will be. :hit:fl
