What did you do in the garden today?

Spent the day picking up odds and ends to get to the post office tomorrow. Spent 2 hours this morning trying to fix our Andersen Door that goes from the house to the barnyard. Most used door in the house and it stopped working.

I was ready to rip it off the house and chuck it in the yard, but then I'd have a huge hole in the house. I can't stand the Andersen Windows and doors in this house. The french door in the bedroom to the back deck was only 7 years old when we got here and it was leaking LONG before that. All the windows and doors have stain problem from condensation and the stain coming off the wood. The big french door has to be sealed with plastic every winter to keep the breeze out. YA. THATS not right.

Was a nice day here. Wet and muddy but good dog walking weather. Almost bought a small chicken coupe at tractor supply tonight. Might go back for it later, but probably not till next year. Trying to stay on track with some other bills and house fix ups. Neighbors about 1/2 way down the street have 2-3 chickens which is surprising since I live in a town house community. I've never heard them in the past either. My wife still needs reassurance it's a good idea.

Finally managed to get the pansies started and picked up some other fresh seeds this weekend too. Eyeing up a couple compost bins to add that to the mix this year. Hope everyone else had a nice weekend.

Chickens are not a good idea... they're a GREAT idea! We love them! And our ducks, turkeys and quail. We live in a suburban community surrounded by neighbors. It's not town homes, but the neighbors are just over the fence on 3 sides. E never had an issue and have had them for nearly 2 years.

I've had them before. But they were confined to a converted dog house which I no longer own.

Hello gardeners. My husband picked up some asparagus for me to try this Spring. Has anyone here grown it? HEEEELP!

I love asparagus!! We grew it when I was a young girl ( around 10 yrs old). I grew it when I moved to Florida and I have it in my garden now that I'm back in Missouri!!
The advice others have given you is good. I bought the "crowns" ( roots) and planted them. I leave them be the first year and then cut sparingly the 2nd year. After that I try to remember to only cut for 6 weeks. ( I didn't hear about that rule until last year or the year before that!).
The stalks that come up very thin, I ignore as I assume those are new starts from the seeds. In the fall/winter the asparagus grows out ( when I haven't been cutting it anymore) and then it gets "berries". The "berries" turn red and then fall on the ground. This is where the seeds are.
The roots re-sprout every year! The seeds add new plants each year too. I saw someone suggested replanting every 6 years. That is probably good advice too.
Over the fall and winter I try to pile on leaves or mulch to help keep the crowns ( roots) from freezing!

Look on craigs list for coops or dog houses you look at what they want for cheap no good one dozen 2 by 4's, 4 sheets of plywood if you have scraps or can get a old door, couple windows and hardware cloth you have coop
