Good morning gardeners, happy first day of "meteorological" Spring. It was 15F when I got up this morning. It is now around 20F and heading to 32F today. Tomorrow we will be in high 40's, yay! I picked up the rest of the wood for the raised garden bed yesterday and bought some birdhouse gourd seeds. I've always wanted to grow them. I'm hoping to get that new garden put together tomorrow. I think I'll wait until the end of the month before I order the dirt. Sometime this week I plan on filling up the seed starter trays and getting them ready for planting. I found some nice plant tags in the garage left by the previous owner. These are the cute oval shaped that actually have enough room to write the plant name on. Unlike the tiny tags I bought. The name of the store is on the package so if I have an "excuse" to drive that far I will pick some more up. Nothing else going on today, too cold. I've already started the laundry and need to do some more cleaning, bread baking and butter making. Have a great day everyone.

Should be near 60 here today . I have been struggling with pain mostly in the knees . I think I have found the cause. gout . So Friday I went to family doctor to get results of routine blood work . All good . Asked for e referral to ortho doctor . Went there as they have a walk in clinic also . Would not see me as referral had not come in . Insurance requirement . So Janet had a DR appointment Thursday . She had a swelling on her leg . Dr said gout . So I take gout medicine . Light came on . I increased my dosage and pain is slowly going away . :celebrate

Still too early to start any seeds here (except my greenhouse ones.) If I started now they'd be 6 weeks old by the middle of april, far too early for them to be out. Nothing goes in the ground here, except spring foods, until Last week of May -June 1st. Anything before that has to be direct seed and hearty.

Garden centers make a fortune here reselling people plants that get killed off by frost and chill, too wet spring gardens, and stunted growth plants. The general population see it in the stores and plants it. Big box are no fools.

I'l getting sweet potatoes started, peonies, and pansies, and maybe start off-setting some cabbage for under the domes.

Good morning gardeners. We got the new garden area staked. I have an area I need to explore to see what's under the dirt before we begin work but I think our plan is solid. I won't be planting anything in it this year, will build the soil instead. I'm planning to fill it with a bale of hay and some soil, then let the chickens in to poop and stir this summer before I close it off. I watered the last couple days and cut back the last of the bushes. We added a new roost to the coop, I have 8 eggs in my incubator from my older girls and will need the mini coop to grow those out. I have a new layer as of today, 5/11 now. I've also registered with our Dept of Agriculture to sell eggs and ordered a stamp for the cartons. I need to get on nextdoor and advertise still but waiting for the little girls to get going yet. We were walking the dogs the other night and one of our neighbors was just getting home; she complimented us on the trees out front. She thought we had a professional crew come in and do it. Made me feel good! They looked like giant bushes, they're young trees yet, but now people can see what's coming around the corner. I miss the privacy, but it had to be done. The hibiscus still needs trimming and I need to rake all the stuff back into the compost pile. Have a great day everyone!
