What did you do in the garden today?

Toenails are done. OMG what a flipping nightmare.
For some reason they are growing at a ridiculous rate and the gravel corral they are on is NOT keeping them worn down.
So instead of once a year at shearing they really should be done every other month.

These boys were almost feral when I got them. Better now but ugh.
They were done in early June. Needed done again in October. Again in January, but I couldn't, and still couldn't until today. (Shearing team comes in a month.)

They were a mess. Absolute mess!
It took us 2.5 hours. I was kicked in the arm (keep in mind thiese animals are designed to kick off Jaguars) draggged. Shoved into a steel door closure and tore open the back of my hand. Thrown into a wood chute support and stepped on. I have no idea how I even managed to cut my finger! LOL. I will be SO black and blue tomorrow. Ranch life, eh?

I am going to feel this later ! Cute fluffy things my A$$!

Mine draws blood now. Be happy you have a broody you can look sideways at!
Ya. My icelandics. Half chicken, half pirranah, half vampire. Ya I know.......more than 100% Icies have more than enough attitude to manage that.
@WthrLady your one strong Gal there I bow to your strength :bow
and stamina
LOL> Don't. I'm just too stupid to stop doing stupid.

I got my new mixer in the post yesterday, a week early. It's a NutriMill/Bosch. It was specifically made for whole grain bread. My giant professional KitchenAid is not handling my weekly bread sessions well. EVERYTIME I've had to use it, I have to take the whole head apart to tighten THREE stupid little screws that hold the whole head on. They wiggle loose when I knead bread. To get to them you have to remove the entire motor. Stupid design. The last time I did it, I put locktite on the screws, When I finally got the whole thing back together, I called KA to complain, and they basically said, "eh, what can ya do?" UM this is my THIRD $700 KA in 20 years. My great grandmothers lasted from her wedding until she died 65 years later.

What can I do?
Buy a different machine that isn't just relying on name recognition and has actually evolved beyond design only.

20 years ago, I wanted a KA, but ended up with a Bosch. It does an excellent job on up to 5 - 1 lb loaves of dough at a time -- BUT, the new ones don't look like they are built as well.

@WthrLady We watch all the TV vet shows and treating llamas and alpaca seem to be real rodeos and that isn't even mentioning the spitting.

I've been trying to get warm all day. I got soaked to the skin this morning and I hung up my really wet clothes but I just can't get really warm. Nearly time to go pick up the groceries at Walmart so I'll just the heat up in the car.

Morning all. Enjoying a cool and cloudy morning. I finished the tie-ups for the livestock chute yesterday, so I'm hoping to gather some pacas for a pedicure day. I LOATHE it, but it is overdue since January. (Screwed up my thumb. Which still isn't better, but the toenails cannot wait.)

Also experimented with the 100% whole wheat sandwich loaf recipe I've tweaked over the decades now that we are grinding our own grain. It freezes and bakes up just fine. Not quite as high a rise, but expected as I didn't wet the top while it thawed or rose to allow for expansion. I just covered with plastic wrap.

Now I can mix up 4-6 loaves and freeze frozen uncooked loaves. Time saver.

Walking the orchard and checking the transplants in the seed house, that's about all I can think of today.

one good thing about being within driving distance to KA factory are sone good deals on those machines. Pretty sure you were the one who who said they worked at the store for awhile, so you know this too! Can’t speak to KA mixer kneading bread on a weekly basis bc spouse makes all our bread by hand, but for a couple of years I was making frequent double batches of marshmallows, which heated up the motor pretty good, but it didn’t get fired.

Mmmm....batch of marshmallows sounds good...

Great day!!! Sunshine and warmth with a breeze!

however, look at the Mothers Day weekend forecast....so cold for nearly mid-May!

pretty sure tomatoes are getting planted in a couple of weeks. They are looking good now.

The potatoes are growing well. I just planted Bean and soybean seeds -they should be ok bc they are in raised beds and get first sun and sun all day.

I’ll be starting melon seeds and cucumber seeds Today or tomorrow. Packages say to do so about 2 weeks before last frost. Should also start squash seeds.

the clover in the big bed is growing well, along with the volunteer pumpkin seeds. Hopefully we can till this in for green manure around the beginning of June.
