What did you do in the garden today?

This seems like the right place to post, I’m sorry if it isn’t. Not quite a garden but I decided I’d plant some chicken-edible flowers on my coop and I’d thought I’d share. The buckets have marigolds (supposedly promotes tissue growth and acts as an anti oxidant) and the flower box is geraniums. Anyone else do this and what do you plant? THat's like gluing a chocolate bar to the OUTSIDE of my bedroom window.

My girls are destructive and voracious free-rangers. So no, I don't plant for them.

I always pay for a good day of gardening with 2 aleve & the heating pad!

I used small zip ties on thier legs.
Ibuprofen for the win! Luckily, it works and nearly always I feel fine in the morning. @igorsMistress, sorry about your rough weekend.

Saw this creature emerging from the garden last night when I went to cut asparagus!
Anyone know what it is? I’m thinking mosquito eater. I’m sure that’s not their official name, but that’s what we always called them. 🤣
They call them crane flies here. But yeah, they are famed for eating flying bugs.

@Sueby, I'm with you, anything over 78 is excessive and a 90 degree day in this area is all but unheard of. The temperatures tend lower than we were used to in Portland but the humidity is much higher. Over all, We''ll take this.

My chickens would kill me to get to corn on the cob, cooked or raw. Flowers, not so much. Well they do love the yellow clover flowers. The yellow clover growing under the coop was fenced off until just the other day, it is totally demolished now. Nothing but stems left.

Gorgeous day, did the watering including the shrubs planted last fall. Continued my running battle with the cabbage loopers, I concede defeat with the broccoli, but they can't have my kale.

We did a little research on our corn and pumpkins to see why they were struggling to sprout and figured we needed a soil test to get some conclusive results.

We tested the soil for all the essentials and everything was checking out except nitrogen. Come to find out that corn and pumpkins are heavy nitrogen eaters and we needed to build up organic loam. So we got a small amount of manure layered around the roots of each plant and watered it in. I'm hoping for the best! The plants are healthy, they just need a boost. :love

Don't mean to double post but some unexpected progress got made on the back entrance behind our property by my son, Walter! He's a talented kid who loves to explore and build so I offered him a task.

Of his own accord he gathered his supplies and set out to clear this small path out into the woods behind our land. I'm not sure who owns it but it seems uncleared and untouched so we'll be cautious. Still, a chance to possibly forage some fun food? :wee

Here's some before and after's he took. We're going to have to build a small bridge (our first big wood project, likely) if we want to make a safe way across a very small drainage system.
