What did you do in the garden today?

Got more planted over the past couple days. Broccoli and more Kale and Paris carrots on the bottom.

Going to build a raised bed up top and plant lettuce with pole beans behind the lettuce, and radish and peas down the slope around the driveway.

Very cool garden, use of space and rock!
I did NoThInG in the garden today! It was 37* and blizzard squalls on and off. I hate April in MI!!

Yesterday I stopped by and picked up some grounds for gardens from Starbucks and dumped them this morning. One more attempt to naturally rid the garden of ants. This afternoon I decided to attack the planting in the areas of the garden that didn't have ants anymore. I got everything in except the zucchini and squash that went into ant area. After a long day, I wasn't overly disappointed about skipping them. I went over to irate the ants and guess what?, they were gone! Never had such mixed emotions. I was mentally and physically done, but the ants were gone and I had to persevere. Now all but the one tomato plant that still needs to bought is in the ground. Okra will go in when the ground is warm enough.

The only downside, I punctured the soaker hose that was threaded through the garden.

I LOVE that garden! I bet it looks wonderful when it's all grown in and ready to harvest.

I just wanted to say that this conversation or correspondence made me chuckle! I thought that having a young Jack Russell Terrier would liven up the place and she did with her antics, then add to that spring gardening and baby chicks and my day is pretty full and I'm Jazzed about us finally getting chickens which had long been on our list of things we wanted when we move to the country. Moving away from city life and out to the country was a dream that has come true finally. I too would like to thank you for your service in the military and civil service!

the battle of the ivy and blackberry removal continues on the slope...my strawberrys are making me hungery they are looking lush and revcovered nicely from the deer munching them down in the fall, transplanting things in the greenhouse and planting somemore seeds

Have you tried goats for your weed problem? I cleared a lot of land using goats. It is cheaper than herbicide and much less work than doing it by hand. We cleared about two acres of blackberries that way and then sold the goats. We bought some pygmies not long ago...I have learned to really like goats.

Burned some garden debris and limbs . Ummm lets call it a controlled burn . Yeah that sounds good . Burned about 1/4 acre of leaf litter in the edge of the woods . Kept me busy for awhile . Note to myself . Get the hose hooked up first . I am getting to old for this .

Arielle, we hope your puppy improves soon. We adopted a Jack Russell in October and fortunately she's doing rather well. We all had to do a lot of adapting at first though. I still can't figure out why some relinquished her. It could be her toots. Whew you want to run the other way when she does it! Given time both you puppy and the weather will improve. I still have another garden section to put in and my knees aren't cooperating. It could be the Arthritis or just the overcast weather that got thrown into the mix yesterday.
I suggest that you go looking for old windows and make cold frame or hot boxes. Are there any stores like Habitat for Humanity there?
Poor dogs are given up for many reasons. . . . .I'm looking at pointers right now. Friend has a litter due end of May. Did a bit more research and my perfect dog does NOT exist. Means I need at least two dogs!!! LOL :)

In case some of you are not on the email list- Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds is offering 10% off on orders today in celebration of Earthday.

Planted more marigolds- sunflowers- Okra- popcorn - and sweetcorn and prepared more ground today.
Dang I missed it!! Maybe a good thing as I already have too many seeds to plant . . . .
