What did you do in the garden today?

Love the Ti leaves @TropicalBabies. Bay laurel is apparently native to the Mediterranean area so it likely wouldn’t make it through winter planted in the ground @NewBoots. That’s why mine is in a little pot. Will likely give it a larger pot before bringing it inside in September. I’m just thrilled it’s growing. There for awhile I thought it might be fake because there were no signs of growth for 2 months.

This morning I re-potted some blue spruce trees I got around Christmas time last year. Too hard to keep them watered and happy in the original containers. It is at least 90 degrees here. I still have a dwarf Alberta spruce to move, but I'll do that tomorrow.

I voted today as well. Can't trust Oklahoma politicians to do the right thing and expand medicare, so that was also on the ballot today.

Other than that, my only outside activity is bonding with my new baby chicks from the rare breed assortment at Meyer Hatchery. Lots of variety and some really pretty colors. It is also nice to get the chance to teach my 1 year old heeler that they are MY chicks when she gets too interested!

I have the coolest app, I just took the picture from the screen and it says that is White Mouth Dayflower. Oh and that it's a pretty invasive weed. Bummer, it looks pretty.
I figured it was some nasty weed, lol. DH weed whacks it & it's actually in the neighbors bushes - I should tell her so she can pull it out. :gig What's the app you use? Nice that your neighbor is so cool about the roosters, that makes life so much less stressful I bet.

Is Bay Laurel what I think of as Bay leaves? It looks like it. Prolly completely different. :lau

So the jury is in - love the jerky! I'll be buying a jerky gun. & a plus, it was a much easier clean up of the dehydrator (I don't have a dishwasher).

Glad the jerky turned out well. Yes, bay laurel is what we commonly know as bay leaves.

The hay equipment is 99.9% done. I got the PTO shafts back from the shop. Guys did a rush job for me as I need to cut Thursday. Nice guys.
Now I just need to install them. I am so sick of drinking Gatorade. BLECH.
The heat index is well above 100 and the Sahara dust is just thick. Storms are on the way.
Out to install PTOs and spray the tomatoes, and plant two more. LOL.

Great to know the jerky turned out well Sueby. Did you add the curing salt? What was your process if you did?

Today I was going to butcher another meat chicken. The 5th one so far. Well that got interrupted. The UPS guy brought my package from @Birdielee !! The elderberry plants even have a little bit of new growth on them!! Everything was still moist so I have hope for everything! It took 5 days for them to arrive.
Then I was back to the butchering, got interrupted again. This time it was to go meet the moving company at the storage unit. Today was the day they were moving all my Mom's stuff out of her apartment. I wasn't allowed to be there. (nor was she). We also did not get to pick which moving company we used. 😞
I will say it was NOT a good experience.
When they opened the back of the truck her paper shredder fell out and popped apart. It got a little scuffed up but not broken. Then a box of stuff fell off the 4 coaster they were using to move it. The box tipped over but the guy caught it before it spilled. I don't know what all was in the big box they were using to move various items. So I don't know if anything broke or not. Then a big piece of furniture ( kind of a book shelf storage thing) fell off the dolly and would have hit me except they had moved that box from earlier over to the side so the item fell on that and the 2nd guy came running out of the building just then and grabbed the front end. Amazingly it only had a couple of thin slivers of wood off the back. Next, one of the guys was moving a 4 drawer wooden file cabinet (that they had not emptied :he) and the drawers kept coming open as the guy was trying to get it down the ramp. I went around and kept shutting the drawers so they wouldn't spill every where.
They had not packaged or wrapped any of her framed paintings or wrapped or packaged the TV's or the mattress. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
I did call the director of the facility to let her know in detail how unhappy I was! They (the movers) never even apologized or express any kind of concern or anything.
I also insisted that the director have someone FaceTime me so I could do a virtual walk through of the apartment to make sure they got everything. They overlooked a cabinet in the kitchen. 😞 So the guy that was FaceTiming with me is going to wrap and package everything that they forgot and I will drive up there tomorrow or Thursday to pick it up.
And to think, I still have to pay them for their work.
When I got home I told my husband I was going out for dinner. Did he want to come? (Imagine that in a mad pissed off tone). He did want to come, so we went out to eat and now I am back home and have to get that meat chicken out of the refrigerator because I had killed it but didn't have time to do anything else with it.
We got 2 big rain storms today.
Tomorrow I am supposed to go finish helping my friend take down her greenhouse. I hope the rain holds off until we are done!!
My first yellow squash shriveled up and died. Now I have another one. I hope this one is able to get big enough to eat. Lots of green tomatoes, can't wait for them to ripen!!
