What did you do in the garden today?

I don't miss haying the fields one bit! That's a ton of work in hot summer, I'm too old for that crap now, lol.

@Wee Farmer Sarah the bees are totally taking care of my squash now too, there is just too much out there for me to even get to to pollinate. I might try fritters with my yellow squash since I'm swimming in it now. I have to find a recipe with almond or coconut flower though. & you're littles are adorable! :love

@NewBoots I love to see others gardening in flip flops. ;) It's too hot for socks & sneakers.

@Acre4Me congrats on the new eggs! & the red tomato - can't wait for that!

@TropicalBabies thanks for the suggestion for the beetles. If it comes to it I will try that, but for now I'll keep picking them off & squishing them. I put up a beetle trap so hopefully that helps. I try really hard not to use anything on my garden if I don't have to, tho I know Sevin is supposed to be ok.

Haven't even done a walk through of the garden yet today, it's already too hot for me outside. :gig

Have a great day all!

Good morning gardeners. Got the weed whacking done in the big garden yesterday. I noticed there's a young groundhog hanging around and zooms into the drainage ditch when he sees me coming. He's only about 12 inches long right now. The weather was pretty decent yesterday, however, the sun is always more intense over the big garden so work there is a little slower. This morning's walk through the garden was nice. The leeks are growing bigger, my second planting of carrots are doing well as are the turnips. I picked another large handful of peas and discovered a green bean on my bush beans near ready to pick. I'll wait another day or two to give it and the others more time to grow. I have some more zucchini developing as well as the yellow squash. I don't think pollination will be a problem as it seemed like the local bees were having a party in the squash. The littles did much better with their "free ranging" time yesterday. When it came time to return to lock up they finally figured out how to get back inside. My bird house gourd plants are getting bigger and their leaves are really big. I'll try to get a good picture later. They need something to climb on. I have an extra piece of lattice that might work for them. It's supposed to rain starting later this morning, or early afternoon. So that will dictate how much time I spend outside. My okra buds are still growing @NewBoots. So hopefully I'll get some okra out of them. And it's nice to hear someone else mention zucchini fritters @Kenzelton the 3rd. I discovered them last year when I was inundated with summer squash. They are really tasty and freeze well. Have a great day everyone.

Here's the garden this morning.

The three amigas exploring.
Wow!! Gorgeous Sarah! I'm so jealous of all that beautiful greenery.

Ohhh, who here was I talking to about garlic? Someone had a ton of it...course I battle CRS (can't remember s**t) & don't remember who it was!

I think I might be almost ready to pull it - it's getting very brown. I've heard it's time to pull with a little green still left otherwise the bulbs will start to break open. True? Or should I let it go all brown?

Picked more wax beans this morn . Got the kiddies and grandma to help . Its so humid here today its like working in hot soup . We got enough beans to put up another 8 pints I estimate so will wash em , head and tail em , slice em and can em today .
Looks like we are about a week out from the first ripe tomato , one of the Super Sauce . The zucchini and yellow squash will probably be ready to start picking next Monday/Tuesday . Cucumbers are small so a few weeks I would say . The Sugar Baby melons are a bit bigger than a jumbo marble right now but I count 8 so far on a half dozen plants . Potatoes are starting to yellow out on tops pretty good now , so soon we'll be dumping the pots .
Hope everybody has a great day .

Good morning gardeners. All I've done is wet down the inside of the coops and fill waterers this morning. Then I sat on a chair on the patio and noticed the mint and one of the plumbago are almost dead, the firebush is looking bad and one of the yellow glads has bloomed. However, the glads are falling over because the soil is soft. I'll get out there later after the shade has moved and do some work. I'm going to pull the basil and move the plumbago to that area for more shade, trim the firebush and mint and work on tamping down the soil around the glads. Everything will get some Jobes as well. Have a great day all.

Try Bob’s Red Mill AP gluten free flour. It works well in most recipes.

I watered the gardens, picked a handful of strawberries, butchered one of the meat chickens, picked a few tomatilloes, picked the 1 red Roma tomato, and packed up a box of jams, jellies and things for @Birdielee and got that in the mail. Oh and hubby delivered some eggs for me to 2 customers.
Now I should be paying bills. :lau
😀 wow!! You're a hard worker! With all that's going on, i figured you'd send me a box in august!
Thank you! So cool

@Wee Farmer Sarah would you be willing to share your recipe? :D
Here you go. It's pretty easy and I think the Bob's Red Mill flour should work. The recipe calls for yellow squash but I've used zucchini, patty pan and whatever summer squash I had on hand. If you plan on freezing them I would only cook them halfway so they are terribly overcooked the second time.
