What did you do in the garden today?

Probably, but mainly really confused!
So we have a heeler as well. She is the dog no other dog wants to deal with when she is angry. Is yours the same? Our Malinos likes her because she is still young and plays but she bites him in an instant when she is done. It is amazing that little 50 pound biddie can dominate an 80 pound animal like that. Ours is a red heeler unlike your blue and yep I found her on the street people throw away great dogs here.

My friend came over and we made blackberry jelly with 8 cups of the berries. Later I took 4 cups over to a friend that wants to make a cobbler, then I came home and made more jelly. I had a bit of an oops with this batch. I had the berries in the pot covered with water, partly mashed and boiling, then I went to add a bit of vinegar to the water bath ( we have hard water). Well, I'm sure you figured out what I did. Yep, I added a bit ( maybe a tablespoon??) of vinegar to the (7.5 cups of) berries. 😞 I didn't want to pour off all of the great blackberry juice, so I hoped for the best. I do taste a difference between the batches we did this morning and the ones I did this evening. You can't taste the vinegar. But I think the batches from this evening a a bit tart whereas the ones from this morning are much sweeter. But that could be because the ones this morning had more sugar. I plan to open a jar of the evening batch tomorrow and taste it again. If it is still a bit tart it will be okay,I'll just need to let people know that.

My arm is MUCH better today!!
We finally got rain this evening. Then the puppies went outside to play. They found a big mud patch to play in. The insides of Zelda's ears were coated in mud as were their coats. Then they decided to wrestle on the kitchen floor.
Needless to say, they both got baths and I mopped the kitchen floor and the bathroom floor. When I let them back out to go to the bathroom I made sure they were on leashes so they couldn't go roll and play in the mud some more!

Please tell me more about how the cobbler went down. I am drooling thinking of it.

Good morning gardeners. Still enjoying some cool temps today and hopefully into tomorrow, There's a heat wave forecasted to start on Saturday and last for about 4 days. The peas are nearly done, perhaps another day. I think the cooler temps have slowed the bush beans down a bit. Congratulations on your okra @NewBoots. I'm hoping to follow you soon with my own. I found a couple of baby jalapenos this morning. I'm so excited. There are a few tiny bell peppers forming, so I'm hoping they continue to grow, I picked the first cucumber. These are pickling type cukes so I'm not sure how big to let them grow. I'll taste this one and see if I can let the others grow bigger. The figs are still looking good, so I'm hoping to harvest some this year. The grass needs to dry out some more this morning before I can mow it. It didn't rain last night but the dew was very heavy. Since you were left in suspense regarding the blackberry cobbler @AllenK RGV I thought a picture of the peach pie I baked yesterday would help. It's close to peach harvest here in New England so I wanted to make sure all the peaches from last year were consumed. And yes, I used butter and lard for the pie crust. It's oh so flaky and tasty. Have a great day everyone.

@Sooner Magnolia sorry about the snake & the chicken. Snakes are the one thing that make me run & scream like a girl!

@Wee Farmer Sarah your pie looks amazing!

I sprayed with a bit of dawn yesterday afternoon, I think all it did was annoy the squash bugs, they came out of the wood work so I flicked em into a water bucket. They are in every stage from eggs to nymph to full grown. I may not be able to win this fight, there are so many. I really don't want to use insecticide, I don't think the cukes are worth it. Tons of cucumber beetles too. :he

Ok, have a great day all.

We have always had heelers. They are great dogs! She makes our 4th true blue heeler and her big sister is a heeler/ border collie mix named Sugar. Only paid for one about 28 years ago when I bought Nicki for my husband when we were dating and he was working on a ranch breaking race horses (That little ball was fearless, she would heel longhorns bulls at 9 weeks). We found Sugar on Craigslist at 2 years old. She's 7 now. Someone had moved into town and realized she missed the country life. She is pretty much the perfect dog except that I wish she went to the fenceline to poop like our previous heelers. She came to us trained, knowing basic commands plus she doesn't lick and gives hugs on request. Always wants to please. Bonus that she hunts rats and eats their babies like squeaky toys. She is more typical of my previous heelers hating guns, storms, etc. If she wanders off, we just shoot something, and she is back on the porch in no time. Belle seems to be afraid of nothing so far.

Both girls are fearless defenders of the property. Our neighbor's young german Shepard was in the yard at dusk a couple of months ago and they shot at her like 2 silent missiles. Poor thing! That's the way our heelers have always been with other dogs. It doesn't matter how big they are. Get your bluff in fast! They announce strange (and familiar) humans and vehicles in the yard, and I have to reprimand them when talking to the neighbor across the fence.

Try spraying again and hopefully that will work. Perhaps @adirondak5 could chime in with some advice.

Mine seem to be responding to the soap spray I made with fels naptha. Grated 1/4 cup (1/4 bar) and added to 1 quart of warm water to make concentrate. To use the concentrate, add 1 tsp to a 32 oz spray bottle. I also added a little ACV in case plants had any fungus.
