What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I went out to give the chickens some FF and check waterers last evening and the hose was no longer attached to the connector on the hose bib. There was water and mud everywhere! Angus, who is being treated for bumblefoot, was happily scratching about in the mud and got his dressing all wet  It's a good thing he's a great patient, it only took about 5 minutes to change the dressing. After I put him on the roost I watered the xeriscape garden and soaked the raised bed I'm working on. There are ants in the raised bed so we'll need some more ant baits; I'm not so sure I want to spray permethrin and then grow food in there. I'll have to do some research on that. I've started drawing out my plans for the fall and winter garden. I need to check on time to harvest for a few things I've never grown before and possibly start a few things in the shade garden and transplant but I hope to direct sow as much as possible. I can't remember who asked about the Ruth Stout method here but I've implemented much of her style here and I'm seeing good results. The biggest difference is that she plopped hay on the grass and planted, I have crummy soil. However, I've seen much improvement in the areas I've mulched with the hay. K, gotta get busy, almost time fir work. Have a great day everyone!

Try spraying again and hopefully that will work. Perhaps @adirondak5 could chime in with some advice.

I really dislike using insecticides and much prefer an organic solution( unless there is no choice and it is safe) . I have never had a big problem with squash bugs but there are a few safer ways to try and deal with them . Soapy Water spray is a favorite , , I read of good results using this Neem Oil . D.E. dusting works but can kill beneficial insects , scraping the egg masses off the underside of the leaves is helpful . I have also read that Permethrin can be effective against squash bugs also. Good luck , hope you squish those squah bugs for good .

Today was weeding the horseradish bed , crab grass and chickweed was starting to get a little too thick .

Then I went to check on the green beans we planted Monday , looks like they are pushing through .

And also picked the first cucumber of the year , not very big but got a thumbs up from the grandson who washed it , peeled it and proceeded to eat it till it was no more .

There are lots more little cucumbers started and a few that will be ready in a few days so I'm gonna have to keep an eye on him from now on

Hope everybody has a great day .

Just training vines and pulling weeds.

This morning i top dressed and added some stuff to encourage flowering. Put white soccer nets around the babies. Enen If snakes don't get tangled up, they will make it easier to spot them :) I gave Olive fresh bedding and another foot soak. Penned up the others early to do that ,so I went to feed chickens a bit and found a pigmy rattler by the food can! Husband shot it.

Anybody recognize this mushroom? It started out as a fully extended parasol. Very pretty!
