What did you do in the garden today?

going to direct seed some squash. lost 2 to vine borer

Been so wet and humid lately need to hit the tomatoes with copper

5 pints and 4 quarts of sweet potato I lost one qt though to a cracked jar. My 80 year old jars were fine. This was a new jar.:barnie

Working on a bench in the shop. I have to work early morning or late in the evening. SO stinking miserable out there. An hour at a go is about all I can stand.

I still need to attach the front to the back, make the seat rest, the seat, and then sand and stain. But not bad for $20 and a can of stain/poly.

Like everyday I eat from my garden. Farm fresh to table. Today I had a nice piece of halibut ( I Buy my halibut from a fish company in Alaska )on mashed purple potatoes that I dug up yesterday and sautéed zucchini harvested today, this evening I’ll enjoy black berries I harvested just now on some vanilla ice cream.

My friend came by with her truck and her Dad’s 12 ft trailer. We add 2x4’s out the back to extend it and then loaded up 7 16 ft cattle panels. Next stop we bought 8 more and then drove the 15 of them down to my son’s house. 3 hours away. The cattle panels cost $19.99 at my house and $24.99 at his house!
After we dropped those off we went and bought 9 more locally and dropped them off as well. He needs to fence in the lagoon and his yard at the trailer they are moving to.
Another friend is supposed to go down to their property this weekend and bring back a bunch of 5 or 6 ft T posts which I will buy for $2.00 each and then drive them down to my son do he can get to work on getting the fences up.
Drove through some rain on the way down and through some torrential downpours on the way back home! It is still raining hard here! My corn is falling over because we have had so much rain. 😳 I hope I can fix them tomorrow!
Also my persimmon tree arrived today while I was gone!!🥰

Super Hot Death Relish for lunch? If I never post again look for me in the Obituary lol

I survived the Death Relish, sorta. I chickened out and made it with Cayenne Peppers instead of a Carolina Reaper. The Carolina Reaper really should not be used in something like that. When I do cook with a reaper It just one pepper (or part of a pepper) in a giant batch cooked in my huge crockpot. That heat goes a long way and slow cooking with it allows that heat to spread evenly in my beans.

Overcast and rainy here. Supposed to get around 2” of rain today and low 80s. Tried to plant more seeds yesterday, but so hot, I wilted early and had someplace to go later in the day. I did get bunching onion seeds planted among the Brussel sprouts and cabbage recently planted.

Dug up the onions. The Texas sweet ones all died back...was expecting them to have green tops for longer, but never grown onions before. They had grown, but should have taken another 30-45 days to mature, and they were not very big, and hardly any green above ground. Maybe the bed Is too wet? A few onions have rotted, as well. Also, a couple had been chomped on. What eats onions (I don’t think it was insects)?

We harvested the meat chickens...10, plus one 5 month cockerel from the main flock. Yum! Already roasted one.

Good morning gardeners. I didn't get much done yesterday. Too hot. I did water everything and sprayed with epsom salts again. Today is not as hot but with occasional sprinkles. I picked more green beans, 3 hungarian peppers, a cucumber and a jalapeno. I have over a pound of beans right now and plan on focusing on getting them into the freezer for real today. I had planned on pulling the pea vines today but not fun in the rain. It just started pouring here. Yay! My okra bloomed and I took a picture of it. Good thing, apparently the bloom doesn't last long. My mini bell peppers are doing well, but I think I should fertilize it a bit. Between showers. Not much going on for now. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the newbies! I watered this morning and took a few snaps. Really pleased with the aloe, they're greening up even though it has been so hot. The TX sage, I think it's that kind, is surviving the transplant from the front yard. I have a shrub I've been protecting from the birds but they don't seem to be munching on the leaves that stick out so might remove the cage to use elsewhere; likely around the small hibiscus so it gets better protection from the birds. I need to cut back the plumbagos after work today to encourage growth I think. The pride of barbados things are doing great, I was worried about one but it has new green growth. Cutting those back every year or two in spring encourages bushiness. Gave my son some $ today for hay, he's bringing me 5 bales to spread around the yard. Enjoy your day all.
