What did you do in the garden today?

I watered my container plants, Peppers and Tomatoes. I was told that Tomatoes need an inch of water a week but I am finding out that in a pot twice a week works better because the pots will dry out in 3 to 4 days regardless of how much I water them. Not much else to do in the garden but count the Carpenter bees in the Cucumbers and Cantaloupe. I have never had plants attract pollinators better than Cantaloupe.

They're here! 🐣❤ Eleven little cuties! All seem healthy and content. We are amazed at how quickly they took to the nipple waterer. I keep going out to look at them. :)

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled gardening. ;) It has been raining off and on, so not much here... Besides, new chicks! Hope you all are doing well.

Those little things are going to be pushing some nice garden soil out their back end! This sounds silly but the whole reason I bought chickens was to make my own compost. Meat and Eggs are a bonus.

I survived the Death Relish, sorta. I chickened out and made it with Cayenne Peppers instead of a Carolina Reaper.
If I get enough peppers from my plants I think I'll try to make a sweet hot relish.
Morning everyone. Just had a batch of rain come through, supposed to get more tonight - trying not to have to water.
I would so love to have some rain, watering every day is getting old.
We harvested the meat chickens...10, plus one 5 month cockerel from the main flock. Yum! Already roasted one.
Once we get the second tractor built, we'll get some cx, the cockerels we processed from our hatch were the best chicken we'd ever tasted. Making a rabbit stew tonight with our home grown veg and rabbit. Really curious as to how it'll taste.
My okra bloomed and I took a picture of it.
I am still getting okra from my plants, they might be self fertilizing since mine are all in a greenhouse.
I need to cut back the plumbagos after work today to encourage growth I think.
Is that the purple flower one? It's beautiful.
I love the smell of that stuff.
Copper spray or the tomato plants? I love the smell the plants give off when I'm moving the branches around to tie them up. It's just such a Summer smell. Even better than freshly mowed lawns.

How big are your pots? I have to water our potted ones daily, and tbh, I water the raised tomatoes daily as well.
Besides, new chicks!
OMGOMGOMG Chicks!!! So cute! What breeds are they? I don't recall if you said before. We'll be getting some cx chicks before too long but from what I understand, they don't stay cute for long.

Tying up tomato plants is like picking up dog poop, as soon as you stop, you see more that you missed. Thank you so much to whomever it was that originally posted the zucchini fritters, we've have them for breakfast/lunch the last two days and they are so freaking good. Today I used my own shallots, garlic, and zucchini. All I need now are for the pullets to start laying. :)

Tonight we'll be having rabbit stew with potatoes, shallots, snap peas, and beets, all from our own land.
Beets, zucs, taters.jpg

We ate the beet greens at lunch with the fritters. I need to get some mushrooms and a couple onions from the store (yellow onions maybe next year) but I think I have everything else we need for the meal. Well maybe some crusty bread.

Yeah @Sueby, those jerusalem artichokes are scary. I'm going to have to look into preservation techniques for them. :)

@TropicalBabies watching your storm brewing?
Yes, a little... Douglas is moving pretty quick @16 knotts and is supposed increase speed and run into some cooler waters as it spins off from the TCZ, forecasters have it headed towards the BI. If it holds that course and hits the pu'u's of Mauna Kea and/or Loa, those craters will give it the ol 1,2 and we will be lucky to get rain. Unless it turns up of course... lol I usually watch more carefully in August and September and worry more around 145 and 15.
As an ex-sailor and waterwoman it's in my blood to pay attention ;) also a darn good habit and very interesting... I have had my butt handed to me a few times and not looking forward to the next.
Would love to hear your thoughts as you are @WthrLady :D and may see something I don't...???

Not much work but got the asparagus from @littledog today so getting them in the ground post haste ... also big bator now in operation shipped eggs picked up yesterday 11 or 12 sat 24 now in bator.. I run into this all the time eggs are larger so cannot add as many but then the eggs fall over what do you all use .. I have one haky sack and cotton balls

@NewBoots I think the one with purple blooms is a potato bush. It used to be in a different spot but it seems much happier where it is now. Plumbago has pale blue flowers and mine came from the clearance rack. They don't have much greenery so no pics of those, but this is what they look like in good shape, not my image
