What did you do in the garden today?

@Wee Farmer Sarah, I'll keep my fingers crossed for your potatoes. :) And that's quite a day you had. Walmart scares me but I do outdoor pick up.

If that is a queen cell, what will that mean? Will the hive try to split or the two queens fight?

Any word from @TropicalBabies?
Hi @NewBoots , thanks for the shout out. All is still good. Just getting ready to be ready and like many, we are always at a state of readiness anyways so there is not a lot of effort needed. I'll chalk that one up to maturity. Looks like the winds will reach only about 60mph but with a lot of rain. That is doable for us personally. Some on the North Shore may suffer more and our thoughts and efforts will be with them if need be. But I think we will dodge this bullet for the most part.

Good morning gardeners. Just when I thought my day couldn't get any better yesterday, the chickens were trying to eat my house! After I posted yesterday afternoon I heard a different pecking noise coming from the hens. They discovered that the end cap on my vinyl siding is filled with styrofoam. They had to be on their knees looking up to see it. Little tiny styrofoam pellets being plucked out and gobbled up. Bad chickens! So glad to hear that hurricane is weakening @TropicalBabies. Southern Texas is getting hit pretty hard with a hurricane right now. Here the temps are starting to climb again. It was a refreshing 65F when I got up earlier but it's nearly 80F already. The garden seems to be doing alright. Nothing spectacular. I took down the pea vines this morning and found about 2 cups of peas. I picked a few bush beans and a cucumber. I think the bush beans are about done. That's OK. I've eaten quite alot of them and have 1 pound in the freezer. The pole beans should be blooming soon. I still don't see any squash development on the butternut plants. I think I need to fertilize my leeks. They seem to be growing extra slow right now. I've discovered what is eating my bell pepper plants in the front yard. Beetles! Not Japanese beetles but similar. I'll try to find an organic remedy for that. Have a great day everyone.

84 degrees with a 78 degree dewpoint and NO wind.
It's revolting. We tried fishing this morning, but the flies started to bite, and the fish weren't.
No shade, and blazing sun. SO came home.

I think we're dealing with mites AGAIN. So sick of the beasts. Such is the live of free-ranging and wild birds.

Garden is pooting along.
Needs more copper on Wednesday.

2 or more inches of rain coming tonight.

Good morning gardeners. We took the pups to the park first thing, then came home to do chores. I managed to spread quite a bit of hay around before it got too hot. I'm hoping a thin layer will make walking in the yard less precarious after a good rain, improve the soil in general and provide a cooler surface for the chickens to walk on. Did get the coop floor wet down and stirred today, the oleanders watered and the lemon tree as well. @karenerwin thanks for sharing pics of your bees. I so wish I could keep them :love @TropicalBabies I'm hoping the storm passes without damage for you all there! @Wee Farmer Sarah I wonder if a bug or something caught their attention and that's how your flock discovered the delicious foam in there. Have a great day all, back to work...

Remember the story about the Pokey Little Puppy that was always getting into trouble? Well I have 5 hens that fit that description. They are always pushing the limits of curiosity.
