What did you do in the garden today?

Got a watermelon growing and the okra that got hit with a late frost is still trying to produce...we shall see if we ever get anything from it. Picked some more beans and another cuke. Should have our first big tomato in the next couple of days.

We are the little blue dot on the end of the chain lol
I'll check in with you folks in a few or if it gets super interesting and I can catch some photos. Till then, me ke aloha, L.
So glad to hear that it isn't too bad there. I know we have a hurricane in Texas as well. Are you just getting lots of rain @AllenK RGV, or winds too?
They had to be on their knees looking up to see it. Little tiny styrofoam pellets being plucked out and gobbled up. Bad chickens! S
The pole beans should be blooming soon.
What is with chickens and polystyrene? Those pole beans are beautiful!

Watering is done and I got the sunchokes tied up, I wish they'd bloom so I could cut them back some. Making braised kale with bacon, shallots, garlic and dried cranberries, and zucchini fritters for lunch. Most of the ingredients are from our garden and that's just so cool. Can't wait till the girls start paying their way. Well, a little of their way. Tomatoes soon, the blackcherries are showing real color and some of the others are that white green they get.

Wow now that is rain how long did it last ? We only get that much in the winter :he
Oh it started yesterday at noon with the arrival of Hanna. Today it is in Mexico so we are getting trains of heavy rains, flash flooding and quite a few of those EF0-1 Tornadoes. Fortunately we were 40 miles south of landfall so it never gusted over 60mph. On the big plus side of it we haven't broken past 81 or so since it hit. So I am enjoying being outside and no mosquitoes yet. Our normal low nighttime temps are often 83.

Nice break from the heat. I hope you're far from tornados too!

Was reviewing videos on weather.com, and some guy (who built it on the cheap) filmed his large hen house blowing away and taking his privacy fencing out too. Was a sad sight to see. It is at 1:51 in this video here.

If he is a fellow BYC'r I am not trying to offend, but please use 4x4's and concrete footings(I go 18 inches deep) as wind is normal anyhow here in the Valley. 2x4 footers do not cut it here. The prior owner of this property was a real piece of work with her handywoman projects. She wanted a privacy fence and just wired it to the chain link. I was out in a January windstorm chainsawing that thing down. On that we are down to just one of her projects remaining to remove from the property.

Late EDIT- I have 11.5 and 12 inches of rain now since it hit in my 5 gallon buckets set out for that purpose. Final update it looks like the severe stuff currently has moved out to the western part of the RGValley, good for me bad for someone else. Video was a late edit.

Phew, all caught up! Lots of adorable baby chicks, beautiful veggies & hurricanes! Hope everyone is safe from the storms.

Had a great weekend away, stupid hot though. Came home to a trillion giant yellow squash, will be cooking lots of different things with it tomorrow. I don't think we got any rain while gone so I have to water first thing in the am.

Found out what moved in under the shed - a groundhog. Thankfully they don't eat chicken! He's been out grazing in the yard since I got home, no harm I guess.
