What did you do in the garden today?

Rain today, and few garden chores.

Picked some tomatoes and used some with dinner. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes! They were good! Even the kid liked them!

The rest of the tomatoes on the counter - I need to can these now that I have some citric acid on hand.

Picked more red peppers. Washed, seeded, then put into freezer.

Good evening gardeners. I watered this morning and then walked thru the garden on my break. One of the birds of paradise doesn't look good but the other 2 seem ok. The thyme might not make it. I like the way it looks but it's not something I use so I'll try but it won't break my heart if it doesn't make it. The d'Uccle chicks apparently hang out with the AC chicks until I go out there, then they run into their brooder. The AC are super friendly, I suspect they may be boys. It sprinkled on me lightly when I let the crew out this morning and again on hubs when he was working outside. He replaced the wood on our RV gate today, looks much better! Tomorrow I need to spread the last bale of hay in the xeriscape garden and clean the coop and yard. We're supposed to have some cooler temps and this morning it was nice until the clouds burned off or floated away. I guess that's it. Have a good night everyone.

It's almost spring here but weather wise it already is so yesterday I prepared more garden beds. Today I'm planting cucumbers, zucchini, squash, pumpkin and beans to list a just a few. I also have a ton of flowers ready to be planted but I have yet to get their beds ready so if I have time I'll also do that today.
Yay! Someone else who gardens this time of year. I'm in the US but in the desert so we only have early December to early February to worry about frost and don't garden in the summer much.

Good morning gardeners. Well @Sueby was right. Rain, rain and more rain this morning. I haven't been out to the garden yet I'm waiting for a lull. Looking from the windows there doesn't look to be much to pick anyway. I got up a little earlier today and finished clearing up the clutter in the garage and swept the floor. Now I just have to wait until the stove pellets arrive. I picked up 25 pounds of peaches from my favorite orchard yesterday. They are languishing in the basement refrigerator until I can start processing them for peach preserves. Thanks for the reminder @NewBoots. I've been ripening and storing my tomatoes on my steel work table in the kitchen. I've always kept them in the dining room in previous years so I'll be moving them today. I opted to can 1/2 pints of the tomatoes yesterday because these work better when I'm making curries where I don't need an entire pint of tomatoes. Welcome to the garden thread @AusHen. It's always nice to hear from gardeners in various growing zones. When the rain subsides I'm thinking of planting a couple heads of romaine. I'm going to try planting the kale seeds I have where the potatoes are when they're finished. I need to plant more carrots as well and see if they make it before the cold sets in. For those of you who are having difficulty finding canning supplies try Target. A few months ago I was stocking up on canning supplies and had trouble finding stuff I took a look at Target. I don't normally shop there but they did have what I was looking for. Just a thought. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. It sprinkled on me a little bit when I let the chickens out this morning and we got one clap of thunder. Better chance of rain tonight. I got the bale of hay broken down and ready to spread, the lemon tree is being watered now and I'm working on the coop but needed to come in for a break. It's muggy and I'm sweaty with hay dust stuck to me. The girls are beginning to molt so I've been picking up feathers all over the yard. The grass was watered and I hope to get around to some weeds out by the oleanders today. I have a bunch of wood fence slats and I'm trying to figure out a way to repurpose them. I may lay them side by side and make a walkway to the garden or use them for a shade structure for the chickens. Anyway, back to work :frow

Morning all.
The new gate looks wonderful!

If you want your tomatoes to ripen faster once you bring them inside, cover them up. I put them on a large cotton dishtowels and put a couple more on top and then top that with a dark old (clean) beachtowel or blanket. The gasses given off in the ripening process, speed up the process in other tomatoes.

I have officially hit the 'I am sick of processing tomatoes' phase of the Fall, as another 30 pounds for today stares at me on the kitchen counter. We wait for this moment all year and then a month into processing....ugh. But if I want yum all winter and spring, you've just got to plug on.

Going to start a new thread on what you planted this year that you won't be planting again....so watch for it.
