What did you do in the garden today?

I am not as awesome as you guys apparently are. How embarrassing.
A few years ago, I still had turkeys and ducks in the fence (it’s 100 ft of fencing. I keep forgetting the dimensions). The area you see was cleaned out by them in the fall, and then the divider was put back up before tilling and waiting for spring. By last year I was down to quail and chickens, and no tiller. I cleaned out enough to get a few plants in, but didn’t get to the rest of the garden area. I did better this year, but not much. I do blame Covid, a messed up schedule and a moody child.

Finally, I am preparing for a successful year next spring! I got to work on the garden, and the dog was very happy to run free, and hunt while I worked. He was my comedy relief as he sniffed out the rabbits and the various other quick little critters inside the fence. He also thoroughly checked the dirt and grass I was throwing for varmints.

I did get more done, and some cover put down. I need to get more cover, and find a longer hoe.

Going to reach 78F today. Tomatoes are loving this weather. One thing about the heirloom varieties they continue setting fruit.
We're reversing those numbers. Getting up to 87 today.. Our record for the date is 92.
2 mornings ago it was 34. Across the river in Alton, IL it was 30 and down in my old stomping grounds (Farmington, MO) it was 28. Luckily nothing froze at my house.
We'll be in the 70s and 80s for at least a week and 60s at night. I'll get the rest of the chicks out tonight.
I've planted radish, 7-top turnips, alfalfa and some red fescue in one of the runs and it is starting to come up. In another week or so, I'll be letting the 5 week old chicks in that building out into the run during the day.

Something went wrong with my dog’s litter. He and his brother have bad noses. They come from a long line of champions in field and... whatever competitions beagles do, but these two just never got it. My dog tried to sit on a fawn this past spring. I mean, I brought him right to the baby. He sniffed a foot away from it, then turned and lowered his bottom to sit. :gig The baby screamed, and took off in one direction while Mom came crashing through the woods in another. I grabbed the lead, and ran for cover!
