What did you do in the garden today?

I pulled the last tomatoes and peppers (both still green) from the plant yesterday as last night was our first frost. & I'm working on pulling up the last of the sweet potato. Did you know that the vines root along the way and you can get sweet potatoes from them?

The chicken dug out my dormant artichokes. I had 5 good ones going into summer now I have dust piles around the planters.

Oh man, I’m so sorry! Try Home Depot, they had some.

I currently have carrots and lettuce in the ground, a ton of berries and grapes as perennials, and some fruit trees.

I bought my dream house- small with about 1/2 acre for gardens and chickens. I live in a rural area, but the property taxes are horrendous and keep going up. I pay $2000 in taxes while a friend who lives in a neighboring county with a similar house and grounds pays $400. In 8 years, mine have increased hundreds of dollars- and I homestead exemption and over 65 exemption- and still, it goes up. I had hoped to live here til the end, but now I wonder how long I can afford to stay.

$2000... That's a fraction of what I pay. I'm in IL... Taxes are over $7000. I just have a 1/3 acre suburban lot with a 3 bedroom home.

That's what I said. I own a little less than 1/4 of an acre with 1066 sf & I pay almost $5000 in taxes! CT=the tax you to death state.

Another day, another sunrise. We made it to 82 yesterday. Today will be another stunner, about 75. I smell grassland fire. I think I'll take the dog, on her long leash, down to the park to bay at squirrels.

Then I must bake bread. MUST.

Had a busy day yesterday. These are Nantes carrots. I had my first planting washed out by a big Thunderstorm nd couldn’t find replacement seeds.
What type are best for canning, any suggestion?

Found a rabbit missing a head in the yard between the coop & the shop. Hmm, I'm guessing the bobcat that killed a chicken last winter. It also pulled her head off & left the body & tried to come back for it later.

Does that sound right - bobcat? Probably not the bear I wouldn't think.

I turned on the nest cam & started recording to see if it comes back but it's pretty far away & hard to see.

Hahaha, the turkeys came through & set off the cam, I got all excited to see what's killing stuff in my yard but it was Gimp, the limping turkey. Poor guy.

Those are our favorites fresh. Not a fan of canned carrots so no idea.
