What did you do in the garden today?

Oh I used to have one of those some years back, it was heaven! I think I'll ask Santa for one for Christmas.
I'm wondering too. I started mine from a couple of roots and a bagillion seedlings I started in the greenhouse last spring. I read somewhere that you had to give it at least two years! I dunno, mine did so well this first year I'll probably pick at least a few in the spring.
That is so exciting! I'd love to have just a few runner ducks.

Raining off and on and in the 40s so I won't be doing much outside today. I already picked a big bunch of beet greens for us and chard for a neighbor. It was good work for the chard, it's still growing so thickly some of the leaves are too wet and cold and are going rotten. Nicely thinned out now.
That’s what I’m hoping for!
How do you serve the beet greens? I have beets to try in Spring. I love them pickled or roasted but haven’t ever used the greens.

Hey all.
Dog has a gurgly gut again. I swear it's every 7-10 days. Maybe she needs an enzyme pill once a week. Who knows.

Anyway. SUPER windy today gusting to 45, tomorrow will be gusting all day to over 50.

Also doubled down on the allergy meds and feel like a slug today. I have an INSANE amount of knitting to do for the shop. There's a holiday open house in two weeks, so I'm going to crank out a lot and hope I get a bunch done.

My big norwegian cowls do really well at market, but I need the temps to drop. We've had a week of near 80 LOL!

I am drinking my coffee and eating chocolate chip, dried cherry, and oatmeal cookies, still warm from the oven. DP makes great cookies!

Then you are seriously missing the best part. I use this same recipe for all strong greens (beets, mustard, kale, collards, and even shredded brussel sprouts). Amounts are all to taste. I trim the center stem out, and cut the greens into 1" strips and set them aside. Then I mince shallots, and garlic and set them aside. I cut bacon into strips (about 1/2" or so) and put in into the pan to render a little, then I add the shallots followed with the garlic. Add the cut up greens and toss them to coat with the fat then add some dried cranberries and put a lid on. I open the lid and mix everything up until the greens are tender enough. Then I add some broken pecans (if you feel decadent, used candied pecans) and serve.

Dang woman, do you have a web page for sales? Gimme!

Thanks! We’ve had collards this same way and they are so good!

Good morning gardeners. Almost done cleaning the garden up for the winter. A friend of mine came over and gave me a hand. Only one more bed to finish up, then the asparagus. He's been growing asparagus for years and told me to trim back all the fronds, pull any weeds then mulch over it for the winter. It's a small bed so that won't take much time. Since I have a lot of cardboard and dirt I will be putting the cardboard on top of the other garden beds then putting a layer of dirt on that. Today is laundry day so aside from cleaning the chicken coops, I'll be taking it a bit easier today. Dinner will be carnitas a la crockpot. I'll still have 2 1/2 days to work outside after today so I'm feeling a lot better about that. The forecast is for a rainy spell starting Wednesday afternoon and the temperatures are still mild. The dirt pile is low enough that I'm pretty sure it will be out of the driveway before the rain moves in. Finally! My curly endive is still growing so perhaps fresh home grown greens for the Thanksgiving table. I do enjoy greens myself. Usually have them more ofter in the winter months. I'm not as fond of collards just because they take longer to cook. But they are tasty and so good for you. Well, my breaks about over. Have a great day everyone.

Howdy all! Beautiful day out.

I threw some hardware cloth trellises over the garlic & shallot beds, the squirrels or chippies or something keep digging up my bulbs, that should help.

Got sooo much done the last 2 days. Got the more permanent fence up for the quarantine/integration coop & I'm so happy how it turned out. Its a coop & run inside my 1600 sf run & all made from stuff we had so I didn't spend a penny. Sunk a couple 4x4s in concrete & used 2x2 coated welded wire I found up in the loft of my rental house. I LOVE the gate latch DH made for me with scrap metal he had, I can work it with one hand!

Dug up the Dahlia bulbs yesterday, not sure if I'm repeating myself or not.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
