What did you do in the garden today?

OK. On a more positive note. We are ordering the roofing materials for AJ's roof today as the plumber finished and we yanked the old solar off yesterday with the help of our kids (yes, we all wore masks lol). So, that is awesome. Temps have cooled and it won't be hideously hot as heck installing the new tiles. 83 – 72 Lihue, Kauai w/ 15mph trades. Very nice.

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Me, cooking and dropping off plates of the basics.

Good God bless you and thank you for your service :loveI'm sorry we can't be better as a whole people. @WthrLady says we can let go with her permission lol.
2 of my kids are RN's, sister in law, nephew and many friends and their kids too. I wish people would just wear masks- not hard!- to protect the people we love and the people that they love.
We have a total of 111 licensed hospital beds, nine ICU beds and 15 ventilators for our population of 73,000 plus visitors. Better than I thought (6) that I had read a while back, we must have received more. Thank goodness.
Today I saw a visitor stop and talk to my auntie who has beginning stages of dementia ... both mid and upper 80's, both without a mask... I'll put money on he was supposed to be in quarantine because I have not seen him b4. :th
NOT permission, my blessing.

My daughter and her boyfriend and his 3 year old son are having his parents, my hubby and I and my 3 year old granddaughter over on the 19th for Thanksgiving dinner. I am butchering 2 of my 6 month old ( yes, 6 MONTHS) Cornish Cross chickens (they have been dressing out at 8+ lbs) and we are having them instead of turkey. Plus potato salad, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, stuffing, rolls, fruit plate, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pie! I think that was everything on her menu.

Usually we go to my nieces with all our family and her husband's family too, but we aren't doing that this year.

I finally got the chicken coop cleaned out and freshened up! Moved 2 wagon loads of gravel. Ground up some more venison. Went grocery shopping (yep, store here was almost out of all toilet paper, but there were still paper towels and kleenex). I did however, forget to bring the $30 dollar check that everyone got at work to use for groceries. 😒 But now that I am also making the potato salad and stuffing, I have to go back for more ingredients anyway. This time I already put the check in my wallet in my purse!
I'm headed to bed, goodnight everyone!

Morning . Going to share our covid experience . We did not get seriously sick . Just really tired . A thin watery runny nose early on . Some coughing . When it broke we both slept or rested for 24 hours . Then it was gone . So everyone I have talked to had similar symptoms . So not serious for most but deadly for some . I have been more miserable with a cold or flu in the past .

Good morning all. Good to hear your covid experience was mild @jerrse. Best of luck with your continued health. I'm glad you were able to vent @TropicalBabies. We all need to do it to maintain our mental health. As for the strong language: I was an airplane mechanic in the air force and could hold my own against a sailor any day. However, I am really trying to work on the wise and graceful old lady thing, so I'm proud of myself that I have learned to temper my tongue a bit better. Thanksgiving this year will be me and my daughter. She had moved away for a few years but now will be moving in with me in a few weeks. Simple dinner of turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and roasted butternut squash. Dessert is pumpkin pie. The remarkable thing about dinner is that all the ingredients are either homegrown or locally produced and a combination of diabetic friendly for me and gluten free for my daughter who has celiacs disease. Over dinner a few days ago I was explaining chicken math to her and her eyes lit up when she said "I might get to see babychicks!" I suspect when she starts house hunting she may likely look for a property that is chicken friendly. LOL! Have a great day everyone, and just a thought - face masks make great stocking stuffers!

Anybody cover their beds with black plastic or fabric for the winter? I seen this in a nearby community garden. I was driving by so couldn't tell exactly what they used. I thought about landscape fabric, but it would be expensive to cover my whole garden in that. I also that about just black plastic painter tarps, but I fear they might get brittle and leave tiny bits of plastic all over the garden. Any idea what I could use that would be economical?
